Harvard offense struggling. USF 7 footer (252 lbs) center is keeping Lewis away from his spots. Can’t run without Bryce. Somewhat painful to watch, but hanging tough.

Harvard will be getting to the line quite a bit later on. Some of the foul calls on USF a bit on the ticky tack side.

Game starting to open up a bit more, although USF still getting a good chunk of its points on the break. That's quite the speedy PG they have, too.

Ledlum continuing to drive almost at will. Big threes from Djuricic and Haskett giving us some breathing room too.

Wow, Haskett and Djuricic both really heating up. Lead up to 13 after a three point play and another long three. 16-2 run in the last 4 minutes.

It's hard to see Harvard, Yale and Penn not doing well in league play this year although this league never fails to fool you.

The OOC play by the top 3 teams has been very impressive for the most part. They can play with just about any team.

USF getting crazy hot from three. Chance to cut it to four at the line.

USF missed an open three at the buzzer. Overtime.

Every time it looks like H can ice this thing, USF makes a big time play to stay in it.

Wow. USF still with a heartbeat, albeit a very faint one, with 1.9 seconds left, down 3, and possession of the ball.

Harvard pulls it out. Very successful back to back games, although frankly they had this one well under control in the 2nd half and let it slip.

Juzang made two huge shots in OT, but missed both free throws that would have iced the game. Still, a really nice win on the road without Aiken. Showed a lot of resilience when USF started going nuts from three.

Not easy to win a game with a 27% turnover rate, but exceptional shooting bailed us out last night. We were 58% from the field and 53% from three. Haskett and Djuricic in particular both had huge stretches for us in that second half, and probably deserved a lot more playing time than they got.

The big picture things were that Juzang continued to get back on track — the best he's looked in over a year — and Ledlum was able to give us some instant offense off the bench. He's still trying to figure out when to pick his moments, but he's so strong driving the ball to the hole that defenders just bounce off of him.

Second half play by Lewis and Juzang last night was most encouraging. Both have struggled with injuries and stamina for over a year, but provided 65 and 67 minutes on back to back nights! Huge!

Harvard is 9-1 when opponents shoot less than 50% from three (L vs. Maryland, though USC would likely have been an L even if the Trojans went 0-fer).

Penn is 5-3 when opponents shoot less than 50% from three and Yale hasn't had a team shoot over 45% from three all season.

Even more than offensive turnovers (Harvard is 5-0 when with a 24% TO rate or HIGHER), opponent 3-point shooting has been the story this season. They probably beat NU and Buffalo if those teams shoot a reasonable % (and lose to Siena, FWIW). MD and USC won because they punished Harvard on the glass and at the rim in key stretches, but for teams that don't have the level of inside presence those two teams do, it's shoot it well from three or bust.

Now back from SF, and what a great trip, both as a tourist and a Harvard basketball fan.

On Sunday, the Harvard defense was really the story. Really kept Cal out of their game. Lewis was fantastic and controlled a lot of the game.

Monday night was just a fantastic college basketball game. Yes, there were turnovers. Yes, there were random foul calls. But both of those teams are pretty good. Harvard was able to build the lead on timely shooting, and I'm not sure it's fair to say that we blew the 15 point lead. I've never seen a team go into NBA Jam on fire mode like that. There were a couple of dumb fouls and a key turnover in the mix, but USF hit four threes in a row and then had a break away. Two of the threes were deep, two were well contested. Crazy couple minute exchange. It was a great atmosphere and the crowd got into it. Fantastic test for our guys to pull together and take home a win.

Incidentally, Ledlum's dunk over Lull was unreal in person. My hypothesis: he has the chance to be the real difference maker for Harvard in Ivy play. His ability to get to the rim is a step above in the league.

What a crazy four years this has been with this class.

Harvard's gotten the non-conf wins you'd expect out of this class, but the "how" has been bizarre:

1) @St. Mary's 18-19
Henry Welsh leads Harvard with 15 points with freshman Noah Kirkwood chipping in 12 (three others in double figures), as none of Lewis, Aiken or Towns play.

2) @Houston 16-17
Aiken comes off the bench to lead the team in scoring. Towns has a rough game. Lewis plays only 11 minutes due to foul trouble.

3) @San Francisco 19-20
Zombie Juzang leads the Crimson in scoring. Lewis has a strong game, but Aiken and Towns don't play.

4) @Georgetown 18-19
Aiken leads the team in scoring (with 6 TOs), and Lewis reaches double figures, but Weisner Perez starts and Bob Baker has 11 points on five shots in 16 minutes.

And during this season that was expected to be peak senior driven, the seniors have combined for 5.2 WS and the non-seniors have 5.5.

Crazy.

I was one of those who thought Harvard's recruiting depth wouldn't matter that much since there were only so many minutes available anyway. But then the injury plague came and having so many quality players turned out to be a very good thing for the Crimson. When your intended backups would likely be important starters on other league teams, it's easier to stay relevant.
