This loss has nothing to do with missing Betley.

We hit most of our threes early. Jerome has a couple in the second half but that’s pretty much it.

They’re attacking Brodeur with multiple defenders, forcing other guys to beat them. Predictable and effective strategy.

Goodman nearly invisible, being completely outplayed by Anderson.

Glad I haven’t been able to watch because this clearly looks like a hugely disappointing loss in the works.

ESPN Box Score not working, but based on points scored, this is why it was really dumb when people were implying we could be better off without Betley. I’m going to go out on a limb and say we haven’t hit many 3’s right?

Bruner playing per box for Yale and blowing out Princeton so guessing we could lose that game by 100 tomorrow.

Dingle hit three in the first half. None in the second. I think Goodman hit one in the first half as well. Jerome has hit two. Brown has done a good job of running us off the three point line while also clogging the lane and limiting AJ's opportunities inside.

Devon got destroyed tonight by Anderson. DESTROYED. And they never came close to solving the AJ doubles. Mix in the usual in and outs, free throws misses and the worst ten minutes of basketball of the year and you have what could be a season changing loss. This is why Brown winning last week was so big.

Penn offense is basically three point chucks and wild attacks at the rim.

It moved in the first half. Then the doubles took hold, Brown couldn’t miss, and it got away from them. When the double teams come and Ray is your go-to option, it’s ugly. Outside of the early 3s Jordan really hurt them too. I thought Max did an admirable job on Choh and he obviously took the Betley rebounds, but tomorrow is now close to a must-win.

Vince pretending there were mid-range shots available. There weren’t.

Yep pretty disastrous result. Of the weekend, this was most important game to win, and again losing it in BAD fashion by a lot of points at home.

Remember when our offense was ranked like 68th in KenPom? That was cool. What is it now? 200 after this?

Next question - few terrible mins I did watch here was a heavy dose of Ray Jerome. Has Eddie Scott played? I thought last weekend is what we were waiting for from Eddie for 3 years, so was hoping that was a corner turned...

Brown looked outclassed 2X against Yale (and we just lost to them by 12... at home) and Yale just put a beating on Princeton. I’m going to go out on a limb and say a win tomorrow feels like a long shot.

Jerome was in late because he was the only guy to hit a three in the second half.

The one distinction Scott, Monroe, and Jerome all shared was committing blindingly stupid turnovers.

Got it and fair enough. I guess we will see what this team can do tomorrow...

For me, even winning the last 4 was pretty tough sledding (even with Betley for most of the time) so never really felt they had it. I mean it was a struggle to beat the two worst teams in the league (away I know, but still). Haven’t felt good about play since Nov.

Let’s just call what it is - it will be a BATTLE just to try to get to Ivy Madness and if we do get there, it will be same as every other time we’ve snuck in as a 4 seed. The defense isn’t good enough and the offense disappeared more than 2 months ago.

In the second half, Brown's defense was pretty close to the way Princeton defended us. The wrinkle was in the timing and source of the double teams on AJ. They did a great job of taking away his sightlines and denying cutters.

Not much more to say beyond that.

No two ways about it, this was horrific. What Anderson did to us in that second half was better than anything we’ve seen. Cambridge couldnt dream of being as efficient as he was. But I do think we rebound tomorrow.

Can someone help me understand why when they were in the midst of 5+ minutes without a basket they had a lineup of only two guys who could realistically score? A lineup with Ray, Lucas and Eddie is not going to have much offensive success.

About 10 minutes into it, I remarked that Goodman had been shutting out Anderson and that could be the difference in the game. Seems like years ago.

I suppose I should remind us of the obvious. A program that manages 13 minutes, 3 rebounds and 2 points from its Junior and Sophomore classes in a critical game is in significant trouble.

Still, a win over Brown in Providence might be enough to get Penn in the tournament this year. That would, however, be the third time in four years that Penn has just squeaked into the tournament.

Next year will be a very intense examination of Steve's recruiting prowess. So far there have been a few gems but obviously no depth. He has been clearly out recruited by Harvard, Yale, and probably Princeton.

I am hopeful things will look up next year. But, isn't that where we were five years ago, hoping a return to consistent excellence?

Scott only played 13 minutes, but Penn actually outscored Brown while Scott was not in the game tonight. Probably just a coincidence, but not a night where any of the player groupings he was involved in worked at all.
