Kenpom has us as 9 point favorites, but I expect a much, much closer game than that. Since Swieger came back, Princeton has been a lot better than their 184 ranking would suggest.
Princeton shot an absurd 13 of 23 on threes in the first game; a little (or hopefully a lot!) regression should be expected, although we need to do a better job not giving their role players open looks.
I’d still love to see more (or rather any) post-ups for Kirkwood and Ledlum. We need those guys to create, and they can struggle with turnovers just driving into traffic. Giving it to them on the block could minimize some of that. Plus, I think they can be pretty effective in general down there.
Huge weekend. Have to protect home court.

Pretty lousy play in the first half. Flat intensity wise, poor passing. Need to bring it in the second half. Lucky to be down four.

Just misseda lot of layups and close shots. That’s the difference right now.

Definitely got some bad bounces but Bassey and Lewis with multiple TOs (Ledlum too). Sloppy play also.
We can turn it around for sure.

Lewis was a one man wrecking crew on defense. Crazy good stuff.

Aririguzoh has yet to hit a shot vs Lewis. On the other hand Lewis has only one basket over Aririguzoh

Finally, the basketball gods don’t punish us!
Forbes comes up big. Plays last 10 minutes or so while Lewis sits.
10 blocks - again
Noah has to hit FT’s.
Both teams denied the 3 in the second half
Penn loses.

Lucky to win when we were only 4 of 13 on FTs. Juzang is officially the only player I trust at the line anymore. We badly need Noah to get over his case of the yips.
Forbes was simply phenomenal in the second half. Lewis and Aririguzoh are mirror reflections of each other in that they both rely on their strength to get to their spots and then score; they completely neutralized each other tonight. Forbes, meanwhile, was able to win with his quickness on both the block and the boards, and able to do a great job contesting Aririguzoh’s shots at the other end. And you can’t overstate how big his block on Llewellyn was at the end. Potentially season changing.
We still tried our hardest to give the game away with Noah’s miss on the front end and Bassey’s terrible, horrible, no good pass when all he had to do was throw a lob to the other side of the court. Bullet dodged, though.
Penn is going to be desperate tomorrow, so we’ll really need to match their energy from the beginning. It’s been a struggle to find offense at times the last two games.

Last second drama continues, this time with at least one Princeton fan noting that Juzang might have fouled Llewelyn on the final scrum/jump ball.
6 of last 7 Crimson games either tied or determined by a single point at the end of regulation. Refs caught on the middle regardless of what they call or don’t call.
Only 1 of 9 Crimson Ivy contests decided by more than 5 points.
What will Saturday bring? Hopefully Chris Lewis is ready for a desperate Brodeur and his Quakers.

It shouldn’t be lost that Juzang had some absolutely huge buckets for us in that second half when nobody else could get anything going on offense. I think he scored on every one of his drives, which probably tells you that we need him to be even more aggressive. He’s the mentally toughest player we have right now.

Great points mobrien and HDG (starting center on the blog team).
The final horrific pass by Bassey was one of several lazy and ill-advised passes he threw last night. Similar to his play before Aiken’s return last year. If he has to handle the ball too much bad things happen.
Great to see Forbes have such a big game. Big quickness edge. Lewis was really struggling on offense, but his D was great. At least he’ll be rested for Broderick tonight.
4-13 FT was depressing. Not concerned about Forbes’ 3 misses, but Noah has reverted to his poor FT shooting of early freshman. Bad misses last night. Funny thing is he has hit some big ones for us. He is so mentally tough that I am very surprised to see this.
Couldn’t agree more that Juzang’s driving the the basketability needs to become a bigger part of the offense. We really don’t have a reliable 3 pt shooter at this point and penetrations may help to creat opportunities at the basket or perhaps better 3 pt opportunities on the dish out.
I’ll say it again: really need to get the ball to Kirkwood and Ledlum closer to the basket. They are way to strong for most of the defenders guarding them and it would likely cut down on their turnovers.
Huge game tonight with likely reversion to 5th if we lose. Win keeps hopes of #1 seed very much alive.

Thanks 84G. Excellent points.
Juzang has been the key to our survival post-Aiken. His leadership was always a thing, but he has dialed up his 3 point and FT shooting and the left handed drives are back. That had been missing in OOC and when he was injured last year.
FT shooting should have been a strength, but injuries seem to have decimated that plan (Bryce 90%, Seth 85%). Concerned for the future as Ledlum and Forbes are poor FT shooters.
Survived hot shooting and strong game from Llewellyn, fouls on Lewis, 16 TO's, and awful FT shooting. On the other hand, had HCA and no Schwieger.
Princeton tried to take away our 3's (opposite of what Columbia did) and double bigs. Forced our guards to drive, and the success of Juzang, Haskett and Bassey in the second half in doing so provided just enough offense to win. Also opened things up for an active Forbes to score on active put backs.
Baker was also key with 3 blocks, 6rbs, and 2 big 3's. With Lewis, Baker and Forbes we have strong interior defense. Those players will outsize Penn, unless Penn goes small and Amaker has to adapt. Key for today is handling (limiting, not stopping) Brodeur one on one and hoping Penn shoot's 3's to form.
