Last year, on the last Saturday of the regular season, Brown arrived at Penn to play an elimination game. The winner would be the #4 seed in the Ivy tournament.

This year, on the second to last Saturday of the regular season, Penn will arrive at Brown to play what will effectively be an elimination game. Under most circumstances, the winner will be the #4 seed in the Ivy tournament.

If Brown defeats Penn:
1. Brown wins the #4 seed unless Brown loses all of its remaining three games (Princeton, at Harvard, at Dartmouth) while Penn wins all of its remaining three games (at Yale, Cornell, Columbia).
2. A Brown sweep of the home weekend (Princeton, Penn) clinches a tournament bid.
3. Brown would win any tiebreaker with Penn by reason of a sweep in the season series.

If Penn defeats Brown:
1. Penn wins the #4 seed as long as it matches Brown's record in the other three games.
2. If Penn, having won at Brown, goes 2-1 vs. Yale (away), Cornell (home) and Columbia (home), then Brown would have to sweep Princeton (home), Harvard (away) and Dartmouth (away) to clinch the #4 seed. A loss by Brown in any one of those three games would give Penn the #4 seed by tie breaker (a home win against Yale).

There are crazier scenarios, but I will stop here.

This is a better fate than we deserve. How disappointing that in a peak year we are left with these scenarios. I know we've had injuries. But the program is not in good shape right now.

It is amazing that Penn still has a chance to make the playoffs with five guys who should be playing and aren't - Ryan, Bryce, Jonah, Jelani Williams, and Michael Wang.

Yeah, the three (and more)-team scenarios get really fun...
