The Ps come to town with the top spot at stake. Brodeur is 4-22 from three in conference play (three of which came against Yale because of course they did), so the statistics suggest that Penn is gonna have to find another way to win this time. I suspect that Yale will play substantially better than last time, aided by Friday Bruner (who, alas, seems to be playing much better than Saturday Bruner at the moment). Penn has one win in their last 9 tries against Yale in JLA; I would appreciate extending that dominance for another game. The Penn game is always fun because the presence of Penn's pep band shames the YPMB into showing up, even though they'd rather go get plastered before playing at the 7-1 men's hockey loss to St. Lawrence or whatever.
The Friday game doesn't matter a ton for either Penn or Yale standings-wise, but the Saturday game will matter a lot for both. Yale can secure the tiebreaker over Princeton with a win and Penn can do the same over Brown with a win. Princeton might not match up terribly well with Yale, but they're going to remember that Yale opened up a can of whoop-you-know-what against them last time, so I'd expect to see a motivated Tiger squad. Yale's last senior night was a somewhat disheartening affair; hopefully this one goes differently.
JLA is usually the nearest thing to full against the Ps, which ought to make for a fun atmosphere.

yea, other than harvard. hope they get a good atmosphere for their last home weekend. that would be nice. and need the help!
no doubt two different Bruners with one obvious explanation. he wasnt moving as well with that leg brace. anyway i hope he can go and be effective both nights but its asking a lot based on what i hear.
wish he had the pop he had earlier in the year. hoping for a miracle!
penn has been our nemesis and princeton should be urinated. we will need to make shots and hopefully both nights. ydn does a good job explaining how penn has held us down particularly on the road last few yrs.
but both opponents are highly capable of doing so.

JLA doesn't even need to be full to be loud, which is a very positive feature for a small-college basketball team.
I recall Dalen Cuff saying something to the effect of "The Palestra has a great atmosphere because you can't hear yourself think" and then turning around and saying "JLA has a bad atmosphere because it's too loud" approximately 2 minutes later during last year's Ivy League tournament. While I like extolling the virtues of what is quite possibly the second-most overrated gymnasium in the country (behind Cameron Indoor) while I'm supposed to be commentating on a basketball game as much as the next guy, I'd at least want my position to be halfway consistent. But hey, that's just me.

remember when i played and we werent good....but took a lead on penn or princeton (both ranked at different points) and jla felt like the loudest gym i had ever been in .
and in that era we played uconn in hartford every year. and they were always top 5. and sold out that civic center...for yale
but jla felt louder bc of weird ecoustics. think we sold out penn one year. didnt win but they were ranked and it went down to the wire.
what is that--2700 vs 15000 (hartford). crazy

*ahem*
Let's perhaps avoid that situation in the future, shall we?
Great, great finish to make up for the awful, awful first half. Yale went under every screen and Goodman was unconscious. It's a little unfair to rag on Penn for their press break - Yale is longer and quicker and made good use of both qualities. The losing every loose ball thing (by my count there were like 7?) was the inexcusable part. Yale was hustling more for those and looked like they were the ones with the season on the line.
Let's learn our lessons from that first half. Still solo in first.
On to Princeton.

Epic
Not sure why going under screens so I agree.
But brodeur is a stud and Goodman is a nightmare for Yale. Water bug with crazy touch
Bruner Monroe and atkinson. Thank you

Penn/Princeton II 02-28-20 11:26 PM - Post#302246

Also, I'd love to hear precisely how the officiating was one-sided. Monroe's block was clean by any reasonable definition (he got hand lightly on the gather step, but the block itself was clean) and the refs had been allowing physicality both ways the entire time. Love it or hate it, that's how the game was being called. I didn't see that any of Yale's defensive plays had any obvious fouls on them.
If mrjames would like to submit that the refs handed Yale the game, I would like to rejoin that perhaps Penn ought not to have made so many truly egregious decisions down the stretch and there wouldn't have been any issue.

Of course it was clean.
Watch the replay. Brodeur made an incredible catch and got his shot blocked by a pg
Quants apparently didn’t play y ball more less d1
That said penn outplayed Yale and are a tough matchup when they learn not to throw it to the corner in a press break

So Atkinson sticking his elbow in Martz throat is a foul on Martz? Unless there was “hacker’ in the grassy knoll?

There is no crying in baseball.

Kenpom gave Yale a 1.2% chance to win with 1:39 left. It was the 26th-most unlikely win of the college basketball season.

That was indeed an amazing win by Yale -- almost incomprehensible. It says so much about Coach Jones, the Yale players and having homecourt.
Penn played so well for the majority of the game on the road in a desperate game-says a lot about their seniors but they had every opportunity to close out the game.
To blame the referees is typically deflection and hopefully out of frustration rather than bad sportsmanship but one always has to consider the source(s) and the tradition of crying.
Never leave the game up to the ref's whistle on the road. A coach mentioned that to our team in 8th grade.
Hopefully, Penn tired out Yale last evening. They should win at Brown tonight as Brown looks like something is wrong with the team -- injuries and/or attitude. Surprisingly, it looks like attitude.

Bradley,
Please show me where I blamed an official for the result last night?
