jack molloy to yale. offers from penn state and bc and most of the ivies.
clear penn wanted him as they offer the kid from ehs in alexandria on the back of molloy picking yale.
molloy is ranked 13th in new england by the prep report. never seen him live but he's a bully on video.

Do you have some insight into why it’s “clear Penn wanted him “? Or is that speculation based on the separate offer to Garrett Johnson? Because we also offered another 2021 SF Andy Barna a few weeks ago, so not sure it’s a direct correlation.
I see on Twitter Jack Molloy had an unofficial visit to Penn, but I see no offers via Twitter or on VC. He looks like a very good player so it’s not that we wouldn’t want him, but I just don’t see an internet trail of any actual offer.

Good spot - thanks I didn’t see that one. Definitely some level of Penn interest for sure, which makes sense. Still curious if James has some inside baseball knowledge of Penn really going after him or if more speculative.

We’ll see what happens with him. Not a good year at NMH, so his stock is down a bit. Will get another year to prove it in the prep ranks, though, and could always earn it back with more time on the court. According to one tweet I read he had a “1500+†on the SAT, which at that point makes him a near AI booster, so seems like a no brainer to take a shot and see if he becomes the player the ratings had him projected to be...

Yes I do. Molloy is a big score according to the coaches. Center piece of the class
and they are after Garrett now. Not coincidentally offered him on the minute molloy committed
My insights originate in n va and new haven and atl where I live. Not in philly
But deduction gets you this. Huge get for yale
I am hearing the exact opposite of mike James from my coaching friends. The exact opposite
But as u know I only give views when I see live
I have seen the kid from Ehs in Alexandria that penn offered.
I was on Yale to recruit him. Ehs has 5 d 1 guys this year at least

He wasn’t anything close to the centerpiece on his high school team last year. He averaged under 7 ppg. He was the sixth leading scorer on a team of Ivy recruits (and not particularly heavily recruited Ivy recruits).
Maybe he’ll bust out this year, but given his low high school output, I doubt he is going to have an immediate impact at Yale.

It could have easily been a bad fit for Molloy. He certainly did a lot over the previous summer to merit the rankings he received. I'm not betting against a resurgence at Hotchkiss. Just saying that, at present, he isn't as highly regarded as he was at his peak.
Also important to note... 2021 is going to be a WEIRD year for recruiting. Potentially no AAU to evaluate, potentially limited testing, potentially less ability to recruit the entire nation, potentially no visits (at least in the fall). With all of that context, it's a good, no downside, pickup that could have big upside. But the notion that he's the immediate centerpiece of the class, as you mentioned, doesn't mesh with what I've heard.

How would less testing potentially impact the AI? Could this be a year where it is a little easier for Ivies to recruit in an AI sense (recognizing that it may be harder to tell who can play basketball — maybe everyone will just recruit based on those highlight videos)?

For the borderline cases, testing multiple times can help push a recruit over the line, so we may lose out on some prospects near the floor if they can't take the test multiple times.

I just tell you what I hear not what I see bc I haven’t seen the kid live but you are free to assess as you see fit and perhaps your analysis is superior to the Yale staff
II will pass it along that molloy isn’t the centerpiece to the guys that recruited him
I have seen Garrett practice and play. Good luck w him. He’s a nice player and a great kid (according to his coach)
Apparently Yale disagreed w me as they haven’t offered Garrett but have seen him. Maybe they can’t get him in but think he is better than molloy. Perhaps they think they play different positions of need. No color there bc I have received none
Upon further reflection maybe both some guy and me are correct
We’ll see. But Garrett got an offer from penn about ~10 mins after molloy picked Yale. I do know that

I think there is a logical way to thread the needle so that everyone is more or less right. Molloy may be the AI centerpiece of next year’s class, and that may be every bit as important as his basketball upside. My point is just that he’s not likely to come in and start right away at Yale when he wasn’t one of the top 5 guys on his high school team. That doesn’t mean he won’t be strong player down the line, and it doesn’t mean that the Yale staff is wrong in their analysis. I imagine they know exactly what they are getting.

Garrett to Princeton. very happy to see him in the IL. Sad to see us not snag him but we moved too late
I did all I could. He’s terrific and very high ceiling as he can play multiple positions shoot from deep and is a + athlete at this level. I hope molloy etc makes me forget

Some new highlights of Jack Molloy that were just posted

Looks like a great get for James Jones & co. Good positional size, can attack the rim and knock down shots
