So our feckless president slammed alma mater today for releasing a study which showed that more lives would have been saved if the country had been shut down two weeks earlier. Called us out for a “liberal hit job”. As if we didn’t have enough problems; with Trump going after us this will be a fatal blow to MBB recruiting.

I can't tell if the comment on recruiting is tongue in cheek, but I'll go with yes.

As our President knows all too well - any publicity is good publicity. Brown could only pray for such exposure.
LET'S go BRU-no (duh. nuh. nuh-nuh-nuh)

How many octagenarian farmers did you expect to recruit?

I think the Attorney General may be in trouble, since he also went to Columbia.

I think Trump may have forfeited the octogenarian vote by deciding that they were expendable.

Sadly, if Trump is successful they won't be able to vote against him as it's unlikely they'll want to visit the polls in person.

Maybe he'll use some of the Wall money to perhaps rename and refigure the Pentagon?

Maybe the study could be peer reviewed by Penn? See whether Trump maligns his Alma mater?

Data driven mathematical forecasts of the type used by the "Columbia Researchers" can be easily used to second guess the timing of any important historical event whether the example is Trump's response to the current pandemic or Roosevelt's decision not to assist militarily in the defense of millions in Europe and Asia for several years until the United States was finally attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. Surely, that was an error as was Lincoln's fateful decision to go to the Ford Theatre. Incidentally, I am not evaluating whether the findings of the "Columbia Researchers" were right or wrong, I'm just pointing out that historians have never taken mathematical driven analyses seriously.

Just as it’s clear that President Lincoln would have lived longer had he skipped the show that fateful evening, I feel very comfortable in knowing that fewer would have died had Trump not tried to downplay the virus for the entire month of February.

I do agree with you that Trump made a tragic mistake in downplaying the virus in February that contributed to the higher number of deaths resulting from the virus. However, my point was that historians have never taken seriously data driven mathematical data of the type performed by the "Columbia researchers" because such data is by nature prejudicial to the event whether it was Lincoln's obvious mistake in going to the Ford Theatre, or Roosevelt's mistake in allowing the Fascists to overrun Europe and almost conquer England.

There is a difference between Trump's decisions with respect to a virus and Lincoln's and Roosevelt's decisions, which involved criminal/war decisions of other people. It's not a valid comparison. Mathematical data do tell you how to react to a virus.

With all due respect, science and humanity tell you how to react to a virus, not mathematical data.

We all know what "with all due respect means" but mathematics = science. The probability of pandemic after we knew that this was an incurable disease out of control in China is mathematically capable of prediction. There was no way of predicting what Hitler or John Wilkes Booth would do. It's a false comparison.

I think what C37P6 means by values has merit as well. The data about the spread of the virus and estimated fatalities only drive policy if you value human life as a top priority. Clearly, there were and are other priorities for this President that he values at a higher level.
