Article in the Wall Street Journal about a specific basketball play:

Kerr felt the same way when he called it for Curry. Golden State’s coach had seen the play in Celtics games and took note when Princeton flaunted it in the 2017 NCAA tournament. He was intrigued. “You don’t expect that pass to go over the top to the deep corner,” Kerr said. “It changes the geometry for the defense. You’re just not used to defending a play from that angle.”

I am not savvy enough to recognize specific plays, but I can easily imagine Spencer Weisz running this one.

I believe the play he's referring to is from the 1:09:00 mark in the Notre Dame game here:

https://youtu.be/RCNEcpH81uc?t=4139

Princeton was down 3 with 20 seconds left, and Weisz threw the lob to Amir Bell in the deep corner who then hit Cook coming off a screen for a very open top of the key 3. Cook missed but Pete Miller's tap in made it a 1 point game.

Not sure if it's mentioned in the article as well (don't have a WSJ subscription), but Steve Kerr had actually mentioned this play in an appearance on the Bill Simmons Podcast at the 25 minute mark here - https://open.spotify.com/episode/3g0OB0AepwG67 Jrpr...

Kerr mentions that he actually had run into Henderson at the US Open tennis tournament in New York and they talked about the play

Steve Kerr was a guest on a Zoom call set up by Mitch Henderson this past summer on June 17, with some of the men's and women's players, as well as soccer coach Jim Barlow, to discuss various issues like team-building and social justice. Appears they have become friends, if Mitch can call on Kerr to talk to the players like that.

Thanks for the video clip--how could Cook have missed that jumper :). Nice audio clip also.

If you read the WSJ article, Henderson was at the back of a rather long line of coaches who stole this play.

Yes, many prominent coaches, which is why the mention of Princeton came as a bit of a surprise. I was actually hoping someone would post a clip to see it run by guys I am familiar with.

Here's a compilation of Brad Stevens' Celtics teams running the play, almost always for Avery Bradley to come off the screen

He's also run a variation on the play where the guy drifting to the corner is actually the shooter which got the Celtics a crazy game winner by Jeff Green. Definitely requires the inbounder to be a fantastic passer, so makes sense that Weisz threw the inbound when Princeton ran it
