As I'm sure is the case, all the rest of you have already watched one of the greatest wins in the annals of Columbia Basketball, their blowout playoff win over Princeton, 92-74, in 1968 to win the Ivy League Basketball Championship.

I graduated from the College in 1966, so I missed the opportunity ever to see MacMillian play in person, so being able to see him and Newmark and Dodson play on tape was nonetheless a great treat for me. That's the great news.

The bad news is that we Columbia fans have to wait a half-century or more to see that caliber of play.

The 1978 team was every bit as good in terms of its overall talent level--it just ran into a Penn team that had more talent than the team that would get to the Final Four the next year.
