They reinstated women's equestrian?? That's what they agreed to bring back? What is the league for that? I'm sure Penn, Harvard and Columbia have strong teams. Does the Brown team charge up and down College Hill?

Um no! They gallop.
This is why Penn is the Ivy equestrian cellar-dweller right here.

Sources: Brown is set to hire Penn AD Grace Calhoun as the school’s new athletic director. She’s a Brown graduate and former track athlete there. Calhoun is the chair of the NCAA D1 Council and the former Loyola-Chicago AD who hired Porter Moser.

Seriously??? Payback for Miller? Hard to believe they can pay more than Penn. So something else must be involved if this is true.

I was thinking the same thing.
I'm guessing that Penn and Dartmouth are going to look at the same pool for AD candidates. I'm also guessing that Penn will offer a higher salary than we do.
We will see.

I hope someone on the board has thoughts on this.
Calhoun has a good national reputation (despite overseeing the department during the Jerome Allen bribery scandal) and was a reported finalist for the UCLA & BC jobs last summer. Over the last few weeks, her name had come up for the open Duke AD & PAC-12 Commissioner jobs.
I'm not surprised she left Penn. I'm just surprised she's heading to another Ivy school.

The only thing that stands out to me is that she isn't taking the Athletic Director role, she will be "Vice President of Athletics and Recreation" and will be a member of Paxson's cabinet. I wonder if that new role comes with a substantial pay raise...

Being an alum transcends pieces of this I should think. But the opportunity to elevate a Brown to a top tier Ivy athletic institution is a bigger opportunity than keeping what is perceived as the top athletic Ivy at the level they are already at.
But poaching across the league for your top administrator? Ouch. Alum or not.

Some questions for the Brown alums -
If the stated goal in cutting sports was to provide better facilities and resources to the remaining teams so they can become more competitive, why wouldn't Hayes want to stay?
Do you feel that Paxson had a goal of going after Calhoun or someone of her level and pushed Hayes out as part of her athletics initiative?

I don't. Jack's move to Bruin Sports Capital - run by a prominent Brown alum, no less - is multiples more lucrative than the path Jack was on.
