Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa, 6'2 160, CG
247 has him as a 3 star recruit.
Verbal Commits had him with offers from Washington State and Pacific among others.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, he moved to the states for his first year of high school and played for Broookside Christian High School near Stockton, CA. De La Rosa was rated a top 5 player in his class by NorCal Preps. The last two years he has played for Spring Creek Academy in Plano Tx. This team is made up almost entirely of international players. They are 20-2 often playing top competition. He is their second leading scorer at 14+/game while grabbing 4.5 bds and making 4.5 assists / game. He is shooting 49% from 3.

Thanks hoopsfan for the great news that Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa has committed to Columbia.
De La Rosa's commitment is the exclamation mark on what seems to be a remarkable turnaround in the Columbia Men's Basketball Program the last two or three months. Just a few months ago Columbia's fortunes seems to have declined to a historical nadir with the entire senior class having entered the transfer portal leaving Columbia with only two or three talented Division 1 players with any collegiate experience. However, without explanation, Columbia's fortunes have changed dramatically in the first two months of 2021 as the Lions have received one outstanding commitment after another highlighted by De La Roasa's decision to Columbia. Why this has happened is obviously unknown to the fan base which has suffered thru four miserable years. If you or anyone else can shed any light on this please let me and other know. Whatever is going on here is a big story, and probably an all positive one.

If he was also recruited by Washington state, then we outmaneuvered Kyle Smith!

That is a possibility, cc66, but maybe Kyle successfully recruited to Washington State another highly rated point guard who committed to Washington State in December. The one thing we do know for certain is that during the last two or three months Columbia has received commitments from several very promising players, which is, of course, a very good sign.

LOVE THAT NAME—WILL BE A FAN FAVORITE—I CAN HEAR THE CHEERS ALREADY. PS, the fifth year rule is great for Cornell—lots of low cost state schools with masters programs a step short of nuclear physics.

Geronimo De La Rosa's team just won their division at the Big Shots Prep Nationals Tournament. He was chosen MVP from among several high level recruits: https://www.bigshots.net/news_article/show/114 9185

Hoopsfan, it seems to me that Geronimo de la Rosa is in a great position to see plenty of court time in his very first year at Columbia. Eddie Turner appears to be the only other recruited point guard on the entire Columbia roster. Turner is probably #1 on the depth chart going into the season with de la Rosa right behind him. However, Turner did not play much his first year at Columbia, apparently due to injury, so he is clearly does not have a lock to start at the point. Perhaps Zavian McLean and/or Jaden Cooper will contend for the starting point guard position, but their high school basketball experience in North Carolina seems to be as shooting guards. It's too early to even guess what is going to happen
