At least that will give me a chance to see them and possibly take at least the boychicks who will be home from school.

Last full season afforded me no such opportunities. I had to go to Easton to see them play (and lose). Real nice campus, though. Boychick #1 even applied there and got in (and yes, alum Joe Maddon was part of his essay) even though he ultimately decided to go elsewhere.

The answer is (SHOCKINGLY!) that the price of tickets have not been reduced even though the number of Home games has AGAIN been reduced. The price for side court lower chairbacks remains $399 per seat. The difference is that there are only 11 home games this year. I think that there were 11 in the 2019-2020 season and 14 in the 2018-19 season. That represents a per ticket increase from $28.50 to $36.20. What was promised two years ago was that Penn would not raise ticket prices in the subsequent year (which. of course, never happened).

Their next argument will be that they are providing season ticket holders with the following benefits:

As a Season Ticket Holder you will receive:

Customized digital jersey (whatever that is)
Vouchers for game programs (programs have been
free)
A concession credit (how much? do you want to
stand in long lines? ATR members get
dinner and halftime refreshments) so what
is the value?
Merchandise discounts (to get a "discount"
means you have to spend more money)
The opportunity to submit a question to
[Steve Donahue's staff and Steve for the
exclusive Season Ticket Holder Ask the
Coaches video series
Complimentary tickets to select Penn
Football and Penn Women's Basketball
games (some value here though going to
Women's Ivy games is impossible if you
go to road games of the men's team
which I do)
and more! (WHAT??)

Yeah, football is staying the same price for individual games as well. Given that everyone is sitting on the south side this year and the lower GA tickets are therefore not going to be great, they'd better let us sit in the upper deck, or I'm going to have a hissy.

And if that wasn't enough, we also give you a bonus helping of draconian COVID restrictions! I'll let the actual lawyers parse the meaning of "attest" in this context, but hopefully it means we won't have to actually bring our vaccination cards to the games, although I'm not happy about either the mandatory provision of contact information to Big Ben, the pre-game check-in, or having to wear masks for the whole frickin' game. If this is what they're doing for the fall season, when most of the sports are outside, I can only imagine what it's going to be like for the winter. Also, the reference to "social distancing" is worrisome; that could put a serious dent in the capacity of the Palestra if they decide to enforce an actual number. For those of you who want to attend the Villanova game in person, I would definitely get tickets as soon as they become available, and depending on how well hoops does this year, I could also see the Harvard and Princeton games being problems. If football and the two basketballs don't get off to good starts, I'm probably going to curtail my attendance sharply until they come back to their senses.

Thanks for pointing this out. Masking for outdoor events seems excessive to me given we are vaxed. I have a photo of my vax card on my phone, so I can deal with that. I really don't know how they will enforce the whole RSVP/registration/attesta tion thing. All in all, I may try the football experience once; and if it is a bad as it sounds, the attendance will be so small, none of this will matter.

Basketball could be a lot more problematic in the Palestra, however.

There’s a free app called Clear which allows you to download your fax info. It could be helpful.

Saw on Twitter that Penn entered a deal with Paciolan. I think it’s likely the whole process will be automated and you’ll get in the venues with a phone ticket or ( for the extreme luddites) a printed pass. The days of the physical ticket for Penn events has probably passed.

As for masking at outdoor events, that seems like overkill.

My guess is that sitting 20 ft away from everyone else will not be difficult, especially if they open the upper deck. Expect attendance in the 100s.

For what it’s worth, and I’m not sure this will apply to basketball games, my classes at Penn are in person, masked, but not socially distanced.

Same for the class I teach on campus at St. Joes. Was true this time last year at this time with distanced seating.

Notwithstanding the unhappiness re the home games, the OOC presents some interesting challenges. Based on last years Kenpom, the Tier groupings would be as follows assuming worst case outcomes in the tournament:

Tier 1 – 4 games: Florida St (A), Arkansas (A), Villanova (H), and Utah State (N)

Tier 2 – 0 games

Tier 3 – 6 games: George Mason (A), Temple (A), St. Joe’s (A), LaSalle (A), New Mexico St. (N), and East Carolina (N)

Tier 4 – 5 games: Bucknell (A), Towson (A), Lafayette (H), James Madison (H), and Howard (H)

Point taken and thanks for the breakdown. I just wish I felt better about springing for season tickets with the home schedule and the Covid ‘experience’.
