The fact that it is an exempt tournament (per the NCAA) is not a total decider to the Ivies. You are only allowed 2 exempt tournaments in 4 years. We played in exempt tournaments the last two years we played (though the one in California counted as three games (NOT one) to comply with Ivy rules. THAT is the source of my question - did last year count as one of the four? If so, this would only count as one game; if not, it counts as three.

This year's should be our second exempt tournament in four years (2018-19 being the other). We did not play in one last year (obviously, as we didn't play at all) and the 2019-20 Wooden legacy tournament counted as 3 games (meaning it wasn't exempt).

I agree Otto that is one argument BUT if the rule says (or is interpreted to mean) two times in four SEASONS, this would not be able to be counted as one game. THAT is the issue I am raising because the year before the Wooden Classic, Penn played in the tournament in the VI that only counted as one game.

I like the Princeton game at the end. Not like the old days when they dominated the league but a tradition.

The D1 Docket (cited by P38 above) shows Penn playing AT Florida State on November 10.

That gives Penn an opening schedule of

AT Florida State on Wednesday 11/10 in Talahassee, FL

AT George Mason on Friday 11/12 in Fairfax, VA

AT Bucknell on Sunday, 11/14 in Lewisburg, PA

And then off to the tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC beginning on Thursday, November 18th thru Sunday, November 21st.

AT Towson on Tuesday, November 23rd in Towson, MD

That is quite an opening two weeks, SEVEN games, ALL on the road.

And then, while I am on vacation over New Years, I will miss our first 3 Ivy home games. All those games when no students will be around. Crazy scheduling.

This schedule is insane. Seven straight road games to start the season - after not having played before the hone fans in almost two years. Other than the Ivy games and Temple and St Joe there might be one other home game - that powerhouse Lafayette. The Ivy rule forcing teams to
play only 27 games if they are in a MTE is ridiculous.

Did their new coach decide to end the policy of always playing that game at the Palestra?

The game has been played at St Joes at least twice - in 1991 (the night the US invaded Iraq the first time) and 1993. Martelli strongly believed that Big 5 games should take place at the Palestra. The reference to that game in this morning's Inquirer said that the "Hawks host Penn on December 8th" - that implies to me that it will be at St Joes, not the Palestra, but we need to await clarification.

The second time at St. Joe's was 1/21/1995 (not 1993), a 92-82 overtime loss when we were nationally ranked (#25). That remains the last basketball game we played while being ranked in the AP Top 25 poll.

Well, they have that right. On the other hand, we are playing our first 4 Ivy home games during intersession.

And that is an absolute joke.
