I believe he and several Celtics players were beyond tired much of the 4th and OT. Mike missed his final five 3 attempts including an air ball in final 90 seconds. But he played very well overall, as did the entire group of reserves. Mike even got his first NBA technical foul when he stared down the Bucks bench after a dunk and said a few words. Did not seem to be egregious.

That has to be the most minutes Mike has ever logged in his career. It’s amazing to me he moves to a contender and gets more meaningful minutes.

The Celtics played tonight at Milwaukee while missing all five starters: Jayson Tarum, Jaylon Brown, Derrick White, Marcus Smart, and Al Horford. That put Mike into the starting lineup, where he played a career-high 44 minutes in an OT loss. He ended up with 18 points and 8 rebounds, shooting 4-6 on twos and 3-10 on threes. He won the jump ball from Giannis to start the OT.

I didn't see the game but statistically it looks like he may have worn down by the fourth quarter. He's not used to going more than 24 minutes.

I watched the first three quarters and he already had 18 points by then, so didn't score in the 4th or OT. I think he started 3-5 from three and missed his last 5.

The most he had played in a game this season was 24. His career high came in the last game of 2019 when he logged 38 minutes for a mediocre Lakers team that was missing players.

Yes, he was quite tired in the latter stages of the game. He scored 8 points in the first few minutes. Most notably he played aggressively for the whole 44 minutes, making a number of key defensive plays, rebounds and tips. Played his heart out.

BTW, does anyone remember if he ever was T'd while at Bucknell? I don't.

When Muscala went to Boston, I forgot the Celtics already had a Bison with assistant coach DJ MacLeay:

Celtics were resting their starters today for their last regular season game. Mike took advantage of the opportunity with 27 points in 33 minutes in a win over his old team the Hawks.

Mike got traded to the Wizards as part of the Porzingis trade.

Celtics get: Kristaps Porzingis, No. 25 pick in 2023 NBA Draft, 2024 Warriors first-round pick (top-4 protected)

Wizards get: Tyus Jones, Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala, No. 35 pick in 2023 Draft

Grizzlies get: Marcus Smart

The Wizards are in a full tear down and eventually rebuild mode. However, they immediately opted to exercise Mike’s $3.5 million option for this coming season, and apparently they plan to keep him and possibly give him real minutes upfront. Hopefully we will see him back in the same kind of role he had for OKC.

Slight correction to the above. The Celtics exercised the $3.5 million option PRIOR to trading him. They had to do that for cap matching purposes, as the player going to the Celtics (Porzingis) had a significantly higher salary than the key player leaving (Marcus Smart). Gallinari was included in the trade for a similar reason, although he makes more than Mike. When a team is over the cap, the incoming salary cannot significantly exceed the outgoing salaries.
