49-30 with 7 minutes to go after being down 16-10 after the 1st quarter.

Villanova was projected as #5 team out of 12 team Big East with UCONN obviously leading the charge. Villanova had a projected 1st team player forward shooting 5 for 17.

Coach Berube continues to have the Tigers play crazy good defense. Mitch should spend some time with Carla.

Delaware is the top pick for the Colonial Conference and Tigers easily won this evening on the road. The team shot great, naturally defended well.

Got off to a 14-0 lead on the road and a 20 pt half-time lead. Took their foot off the pedal a little bit in the 2nd half.

Hard to believe that they are playing so well without Carlie and Bella.

I had every expectation they’d be this good.

Still some questions…will Nweke or Morton or others emerge as reliable rotation players. They’re playing only six deep and that concerns me. 2 years ago they had 8-1/2 players in the rotation. When someone gets in foul trouble tonight, as Meyers did, they run the risk of trouble.

Let’s see what Sunday brings.

Nweke and Morton will both help. Ivy teams will find it hard to match this team. Berube teams play DEFENSE

Boston U is a seasoned successful team projected to be a co-favorite of the Patriot League.

Tigers won by 29 points, allowing only 40 points, in dominating fashion. They are so fundamentally sound. Cunningham, Myers and Stone along with Mitchell led the way once again.

Penn, Columbia and others are also going to be very good this year. IL should be very strong.

Major problem is their lack of height with no Big although Mitchell plays taller than her height. Emsbro, 6'5", still does not dress for games due to knee injuries. Other potential question mark is their bench during non-conference play.

Obvious strengths are Berube and the quality of players, especially on the defensive end.

Tiger women have already played 2 Quadrant 1 games. 5 of the next 8 games are probably against Quadrant 1 teams with 3 of them on the road.

Saturday night they face Rhode Island on the road which is the A-10 favorite. R.I. just beat Providence on the road by 13 pts and Dartmouth by 46 pts. Several games later, they play FGU on the road which will be a top 25 team and then Texas at home who just beat #3 Stanford. Simply a crazy competitive schedule -- almost reckless.

Warren Nolan has 3 IL teams finishing in the top 83 at the end of the season with Princeton being a top 25 team. Time will tell but they may well take some hits in non-conference play before a tough IL schedule. They are very good but not sure this good.

FGCU on the road will be a formidable challenge, but this team is up to it.

Texas? I don't know. But if this team can manage to beat a Texas team that knocked on Stanford, interest in this team will be off the charts. And hosting a pod in March would definitely be on the table.

FGCU and Texas will be very tough games but I am 99% sure that Rhode Island falls into this category. They have very good players from overseas as well as top transfers from major basketball powers -- Missouri, Syracuse and Seton Hall. The Tigers had trouble stopping the Seton Hall transfer Elmore when they had Bella. They will somewhat taller than the Tigers and they are playing at home.

It will be a very challenging game.

Tough 61-53 loss at URI to end the 25 game winning streak.

They started out great in the 1st quarter, but URI bounced back in the second. They finally wore the Tigers down in the fourth quarter.

Winnable games against Temple and Maine before taking on FGCU.

I thought that I was going to have to eat my prior words when Princeton was up 13-2 early in the 2nd qtr. RI amateur hour announcers could not believe what was going on.

Cunningham shot 3 for 18 which was simply bizarre and Tigers missed a lot of wide open shots in the 1st half.

Longest winning streak in the country is gone and the Tigers need to work on their offense and boxing out.

Myers is simply a sensational player with gifts that few women players possess and Mitchell is really good on the defensive end.

Describing the announcers as "amateur hour" is way too generous. They were pretty close to the worst I have ever heard, misstating what had just occurred over and over, and then making it worse by contradicting themselves as they tried to correct their mistakes.

Cunningham was really off her game for some reason, and the team was not much better as they shot 32% from the field, 21% from three (partially due to URI's defense), and 50% at the free throw line. Mitchell has to work on her free throws (0-4), as she will go to the line often. A close game at the end of the third quarter slipped away when Abby Meyers sustained some sort of leg injury and could not play in the fourth quarter.

It would surely help if a few of the bench players can get a lot better real fast.

They've got a very short bench...they're basically going with a rotation of 6, plus a few cameos for 3-4 minutes a game.

Toward the end of the URI game, they were not finding the easiest shots. Too many mid-range jumpers, which neither are high percentage, nor do they come with the 50% premium that shots behind the arc receive. Also, Julia was uncharacteristically ice cold. Combine her 3-for-16 with Meyers' apparent injury, and all of a sudden they played like mortals.

If Myers has a significant injury, it would be a major blow especially in the upcoming crazy non-conference schedule. Meyers had 22 pts after 3 quarters against RI and when she left, the Tigers went downhill.

Temple game tomorrow evening will be much tougher with Meyers on the road if she cannot play.

There are very few IL women's players that can off a shot on their own and that includes Meyers and Padilla from Penn. Meyers would be a huge loss if she is out of action for an extended period of time and it did look like the injury was possibly significant.

Fortunately, Meyers was on the floor tonight although she started off 0-8 and 0-3 on 3s. After another fast start, 17-4 after the 1st quarter, shooting got cold but defense/rebounding remains consistently very good to great.

Lead got down to 4 pts in 3rd quarter but Meyers got going 4-4 and 3-3 on 3 pointers and Tigers pulled away with a 59-41 win.

Paige Morton stepped up and had a good game and hopefully, she will become a reliable sub, 2nd player off the bench. They need her height and rebounding especially against non-conference bigs. Problem for Tigers is lack of height and depth against top flight opponents like FGCU and Texas.

Harvard lost by 24 on the road to a very good Rhode Island team and Penn lost to Villanova at home last night -- another Tiger opponent.

IL women are playing some tough non-conference opponents.

Things I loved seeing tonight:

*Meyers on the court
*Meyers’ fourth quarter. Abby is streaky as hell but when she gets on a roll, watch out.
* Team shot selection in their 15-0 run to start the game
* Paige Morton’s contributions
* Tigers moving up to 8th in RPI

Things I didn’t love seeing:
* The middle 20 minutes of the game
* Grace’s shot selection all game
* Julia out for the entire 4th quarter—hope she is ok
* The Temple broadcasting crew, who managed to butcher Berube’s last name at least 3 different ways…and wasted their postgame interview asking Coach how she feels about snapping the Tigers’ losing streak against Temple, even though we hadn’t played them in nearly 20 years.

I look forward to the doubleheader Sunday—wish they scheduled more of these!

Agreed about Paige Morton's contributions. 6 points, 3 rebounds in 13 minutes. She seems stronger and more physical than I expected, so with that and continued improvement and more confidence on the court she could definitely help the cause. Nweke quietly grabbed 5 rebounds in 7 minutes. Looking for the newcomers to shake their seeming timidity and gain confidence as they get more playing time.
Ellie Mitchell is 1 for 8 from the charity stripe in the last 2 games. Not good.

I was surprised that Meyers' double double last night was her first. Missed 4th quarter vs. R.I. and winning streak snapped. Plays 4th quarter last night and leads a blowout win. Oh what might have been.

Loss to Rhode Island could indeed hurt at the end of the year if Tigers need to get in without winning IvyMadness. Losing Meyers in the 4th qtr was a killer. The women have very tough non-conference games remaining especially Fordham, FGCU and Texas and they will probably be underdogs in 2 or all of the games.

One could look back and only wonder what it could have been with Bella and Carlie during their historic season . May have been one of the highest IL seeds in a long long time but it is what it is.

IL season should be very good as Columbia is for real probably along with Penn then Yale and Harvard. Women's IL conference will probably be very strong as to RPI which will help in getting 2 bids.

Hopefully, Cunningham has recovered and will play today against Maine although they really need her for the following 5 games against 2 top 25 teams, FGCU and Texas, in addition to the other 3 teams that all have winning records even though they have played very competitive non-conference schedules. It is conceivable and probably likely that women could go 3-3 or 2-4 during this next stretch.

It would be helpful if several freshmen get some additional playing time today in order to get ready for the upcoming stretch but Maine has been a traditional women's powerhouse although this year, they are only 2-4 but against good competition.

Hopefully, women can get through the next six games.

Tigers blew out Maine this afternoon 82-43 and never looked back after a 17-4 1Q. Cunningham played 27 minutes and scored 14 points. Meyers scored 21 and Stone and Connolly each had 11. 6 TOs vs. 21 for. Maine.

Just total domination of a team that beat Yale by 3 in New Haven on Nov 19.

Tigers were down 2-4 5 minutes into the game and then took the lead 17-4 by the end of the quarter by playing such fundamentally sound defensive basketball. Maine rarely was able got off shots during this stretch and the beginning of the 2nd qtr when the score reached 23-4. Coach Berube and the staff appear to have remarkable defensive teaching skills. I It is hard to believe that she coached at Division III for so many years.

She has a remarkable gift but it will be tested next Wednesday night in Ft. Myers against FGCU who leads the country as to the number of 3s' made per game plus they have a former Ohio State 6'1" player that is averaging 26 points per game. She was a top 10 player coming out of HS.

Good to see Columbia pull out the game from 0-5 Rider. Every non-conference game won by IL team is a good thing.

Wasn’t as close as the score would indicate.

Lot to love here.

* Abby Meyers is playing on another level.
* Paige Morton is a legitimate inclusion in the rotation and adds height to the mix.
* Ellie Mitchell was 2-2 from the line. Small sample size but very encouraging sign. Plus she had 6 (!) steals, four short of the school record.
* only 6 turnovers all game.

Now we see what they can do against a ranked team at FGCU.

FGCU is a lot to take on this early. But this team should go far.
