Can we take a moment to appreciate what Jelani Williams did yesterday? 5th game in 9 days. After 3 ACLs. And he played 39 minutes against a top 100 team, led the team in rebounds (in a game where we outrebounded a team with a great frontcourt including a likely NBA player), and led the team in assists. Had 3 steals too. It was unbelievable that he came back to play this year at all. But to play a game like that? It’s truly amazing.

Jelani is playing with total abandon, which is remarkable for someone who could easily be reluctant to mix it up. He dove flat out for a loose ball late in a non-competitive game against Lafayette, pulled himself up and then ran his butt off to get back on D. He then pulled up, appearing to have injured his leg, but shook it off after initially seeming to call for a substitution. SD left him in there and Jelani fought through the pain until it passed. This guy has as much grit as anyone I've seen in a Penn uniform - at lesst up there with Barry Pierce.

Over the years, I have gone back to watch his HS videos. Jelani seems to have fantastic strength and desire. His shot is pretty good, though perhaps not dead-eye yet. Can you imagine his game right now if he also had this level of explosiveness?

Unfortunately, he may be a bit like Derrick Rose. So explosive that it put too much stress on his joints.
