Tigers play #22 ranked FGCU away this evening. FGCU is 7-0 along with winning 6 of the games on the road.

They have the leading scorer in the country at 26.1 per game at 6'1" plus one of the highest % 3 pt shooters in NCAAW history along with a very good PG. Other than upcoming Texas game at home, FGCU is probably the most talented team that Tigers will face.

Question will be who guards top scorer Bell - Mitchell may not be quick enough and Cunningham/Stone may not be big enough.

Only silver lining is that FGCU beat Temple at home by 17 and Tigers beat Temple by 18 on the road. But, this game is an away game.

It will Tiger's defense against FGCU offense.

**** Disappointing that Penn lost to LaSalle last evening. IL teams need to keep winning in order to get 2 bids.

A propos of Penn losing to LaSalle: Shame we didn't schedule LaSalle and St Joe's. If we sweep Penn, can we still win the Big 5?

Nice start, 12-12 after 1. Bell seemed like a non-factor until the final minute, although I admittedly haven't been watching with full attention.

FGCU announcers: "Did you know that Princeton has FOUR rowing teams? Two women's and two men's!"

Really nice response to an FGCU run to start the quarter, up 24-19 with 1 minute left

Up 24-21 at halftime feels like theft -- offense hasn't gotten much going, FGCU missed three easy layups that quarter and can't hit a three. Mitchell and occasional help have been fantastic on Bell though.

What a final three minutes -- FGCU's offense finally showed up and stopped throwing it away, but Meyers and Stone were huge.

First Princeton win over a ranked team since beating Rutgers in 1978 per the broadcast.

Props to the FGCU announcers who were very even handed and complimentary about PU.

I agree that the announcers were balanced and good.

Did not know if the Tigers were really good before this game but they were really impressive tonight. Stone took on Bell and played great both defensively and offensively. Meyers is obviously a unique talent. Cunningham and Mitchell are simply tough and relentless. Connolly is the weakest link but Chen may step up at some point in the season as the starting PG. Rebounding could also improve.

But the single most important attribute of this team is Carla and the coaching staff. The team is just so fundamentally sound on the defensive end. The team plays so hard but they also play smart.

This win will certainly help their ranking but they play a really good Fordham team on the road Sunday.

With some upcoming top recruits, Carla may be creating something not seen in the IL for a long time.

If anyone's looking for more, Carlie Littlefield and Courtney Banghart are playing Minnesota on Big Ten network now...

If not for IL foolish rules, one can only imagine what the Tigers would look like with Littlefield at PG vs. Connolly. Banghart did so much to turn around the Tiger program and Berube has obviously added another dimension on the defensive end.

Why is everyone so down on Maggie Connolly? She may not have had her best game today but she'll do a lot of good things throughout the course of the season.

I don't think it's "everybody." She's a solid contributor and will do fine.

And one player nobody can be down on is Grace Stone (aka Grace "Sloan"). She was amazing. On the last play of the game, she switched off to smother Kendall Spray (grad student from Clemson who is apparently one of the greatest 3-point shooters ever - battling former Harvard star Katie Benzan for that honor), forcing Spray to dribble once and run out the clock before even taking her shot. That sort of epitomizes Carla Berube's defense.

This team has already shown they're going to be pretty good, but if some of the bench players can step up and give the starting five more rest, they certainly will be.

Connolly is a good player just not at the same level as the other 4 starters by quite a lot and she does play a critical position. She has gotten off to a slow start shooting and is hesitant to get off her shot. She is a far steadier player than Chen although Chen has a lot more upside. Needless to say, not even remotely close to Carlie's level of play.

UNC will be ranked next week or at lest very close. Tigers will get some votes if they get past Fordham.

Btw, RPI is back up to #5 after beating a previously undefeated FGCU on the road.
