Wasn't able to see the game, but judging from the box score and write-up, it looked pretty much like the Quinnipiac game, only with Barry and Cornish getting their usual buckets.

We can play with a lot of teams. Only a question of whether who gets that extra basket.

Result was similar, loss by 3 points. But this game was closer. They could have won. Had the ball and lead (up 1 and 12 second differential on clock) with about 30 seconds left and they turned it over. Ugh! They did get it back down 2 and missed a two from the paint. They played good defense but lack a true go to guy. Rai played well against Quinnipiac and Cornish is a welcome addition but when Barry is double teamed, Dartmouth struggles. Hope the west coast will bring good luck to the Big Green

I suspect that when Greenhorn was talking about giving Slajchert's minutes to freshmen, he meant to Cornish.

Cornish is a heck of a three-point shooter. But he's also a step slower and doesn't look physically strong. I imagine that we give up something on defense when he's on the court.

Then again, we've lost three straight when a single basket was the difference...

There must be one among us with more patience and time than I have at the moment who could look at games decided by one possession during McLaughlin's tenure (as opposed to Cormier's before him), and what our record is in those games. It might be the personnel, but it might also be the end-of-game coaching decisions that are leaving us in the loss column--or it could just be my perception that we're losing a disproportionate number of those games.

Never mind, I just went and did it myself. An interesting (and unfortunate) trend during the McLaughlin tenure:

YEAR: RECORD IN GAMES WHEN THE FINAL MARGIN WAS LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 3
2016-17: 5-0
2017-18: 3-5
2018-19: 1-7
2019-20: 1-4
2021-22 (so far): 1-2

So that's 10-18 overall, but 3-13 in the last three seasons. You figure that games like that ought to be toss-ups, so you win about half of them. So we're getting in our heads or making mistakes or running the wrong plays at the end. Someone with actually more time could look at each of those games to see if we were behind and made the score closer or if the other team took the lead from us in the final minute or two. Still, not a great trend for a team looking to make its way into the north half of the Ivy standings at some point.

I think fairness dictates that you count games like FGCU, where we hit three pointer near the buzzer to send it to overtime, but faltered in the extra period.

McLaughlin's "end-game" strategy worked then.

Arguably the best moment in the past 50 or 60 years of Dartmouth basketball!
