Dunph is a great coach and a better man. Still, hiring him at this stage reeks of desperation on the part of LaSalle, which apparently could not get a hot up and coming coach to take the job, which is what would be the best case for its program. Dunph will get these players to play their best---whether he can recruit when we all know that opposing coaches will be casting doubts on his willingness to stay there for 4 years to be with these players---is up in the air. I hope he succeeds, but it will not be easy.

He's got a whole new team with all the transfers out and imports in. Good that he retained all the assistants though. Let's just say Penn will be favored when they play this year.

Happy to see Dunphy at LaSalle no matter how long. Hope he can get that program turned around a bit so they can attract a younger coach in a coupe of years.

I don't know how it will go, but I get the feel that Lasalle needs someone to show them how to run a good program again. I think Dunph definitely knows how to do that. I have no idea where that brings the program at the end. To my mind, Dunph has earned the right to take the open shot.

They had a really good coach in Giannini, who got them to the Sweet 16 in 2013. With a program like that or St. Joe's, small Catholic private schools, any coach who can bring occasional super-years should be cherished, not fired after a recruiting class blows up and the team hits a valley.
Sure, Dunph deserves whatever he wants to do. But I think he's doing it for them, not the reverse. And the problem is that all opposing coaches will recruit against him on the basis that he's not going to be there in the long term. He's going to have to do it with transfers and guys overlooked elsewhere--that's tough.

He never took a shot he couldn't miss. Just ask him.

Nov 20 LaSalle vs USF an NCAA final rematch. Lot's of Bill Russell karma on that date.

And it took me a minute asking "when was LaSalle-South Florida an NCAA Final?" when I put 2+2 together here.
