The women open tonight on the road vs a good St. Joseph's team. One of the St. Joes starters is Tessa Brugler's sister. Game is on ESPN+ at 7 PM.

According to the Game Notes, the startng lineup will be Collins, Shaffer, King, Emma Theodorsson, and Tai Johnson. The first three were a given, but the final two spots were up for grabs.

If frosh Blake Mathews has recovered from the knee issue that kept her out for a couple months, expect her to see some time at the point. Theodorsson is a multi-skilled player who, like Cecelia Collins, can play four positions. Expecting her to be another Collins is too much to ask, but hopefully she is ready to be a solid starter as a freshman.

The women not only have a challenging OOC schedule, but then open the PL segment against the predicted top three teams (Boston, Lehigh, and Holy Cross).

Tai Johnson has looked great. I missed the first 5 minutes, but Collins has not played since I started watching. I know she was battling some injuries, so hope she hasn't reinjured herself.

Taylor O'Brien started for FSU today and had 19 points and played 36 minutes in a 113-50 win over Bethune-Cookman.

She picked up two fouls in the first 6:30. One was a soft offensive foul that didn't need to be called. The second was a block/charge situation with little contact and a late whistle.

That obviously has a huge effect on the game since she is BU's top player by a wide margin and is better than any St. Joe's player as well.

Reinbeau started at forward in place of King. Not sure what is wrong with King. She is one of the team's top returnees.

The refs seem whistle happy tonight. There have been a few questionable foul and travelling calls.

As is the case in many of the women's games, the refs are bad in this one.

One clarification on what I posted above. King has played some minutes, but Reinbeau has played more minutes at that spot. Dingler has not played and I think she may be in street clothes on the bench.

And Marly Walls started and scored 14 points for Pepperdine in a 20 point loss at UNLV.

Bison women are on the road tonight to play Virginia Tech, who is ranked #13 in both major polls. I am pretty sure this is the highest ranked opponent the have met in the regular season in the scholarship era. And many who follow the women's game closely think VA Tech is better than that. Charlie Creme, who does bracketology for ESPN, has them as a 3 seed.

This will be a very tough game for a relatively inexperienced team, especially if some of the players are not recovered from the various illnesses that have hit them the past two weeks.

I think it's on the ESPN app, but only if your cable provider carries ACCNX network.

That may have been the worst quarter of basketball I've ever seen our women play. To their credit, they fought back and got it to single digits at one point. Unfortunately, the poor shooting returned in the 4th. I don't understand Woodruff not starting Tai Johnson. She's been playing well and has the experience to handle tough situations. It was good to see Shaffer have a good game after a rough start.

Women got their first win today at Cornell. It was an ugly first 15 minutes again, but luckily Cornell is not as talented as FDU. They came back from 13 down to force OT. Hopefully, the strong 2nd half and OT provide some momentum.

Another come from behind win for the ladies, this time over Iona on Education Day at Sojka.
Remi Sisselman has established herself in the early going to the point where she may be challenging Collins as the teams best player. Also interesting to note the way Coach Woodruff is using his point guards. He has been starting Blake Hoffman, while captain Tai Johnson rides the bench, but when 4th qtr comes around it is Johnson that gets the call over the rookie. This team will only get better as the season rolls along.

As you say, Blake Mathews has been starting at PG, which allows Collins to play off the ball, where it should be easier for her to score. However Mathews is inexperienced and rarely plays in the later stages. But Tai Johnson can't really play the point, which moves Collins over to that position when Johnson enters, with Johnson playing the two.

Collins is the team's best defender, second best rebounder, and best scorer. Also clearly the team leader. Although she has struggled a bit in the early going - with the loss of O;Brien and Walls a big reason - it is likely she will end up as first team All-PL.

No disagreement here.Just saying Sisselman is coming on strong.

Well I guess I jinxed Sisselman. In another game that looked winnable if the Bison had a decent 3 pt shooting performance the team made very few 3s and Remi was 0-9.

Overall they were 2–21 from beyond the arc. If they had made a more normal seven threes, it would’ve been a tight game in theory. As it was, Syracuse won 65-48. Freshman center Grace Sullivan had a good game.

Couldn’t attend today due to a conflict, but three things stood out from the box score. First, another good game from Sisselman, who had 18 points. Second, I love seeing freshmen have good games. Kudos to Theodorsson, who had 10 points and 4 rebounds in 25 minutes. And third, speaking of freshmen, Blake Matthews, who is all of 5’4”, had 8 rebounds in 14 minutes. This is a young team that’s only going to get better.

And, although Grace Sullivan did not score, she played 14 solid minutes, strong defense with 6 RBs, 2 assists and a block. Although her shots didn't go down, she had good moves to the hoop and wad good shooting form.

So we have a great freshman class that should only get better.

Saturday win at home vs. Stony Brook was impressive. Stony Brook are picked 3rd or 4th in their league, but BU Women outplayed them.

Emma T., the Freshman recruit did not play due to a mild cold/headache, but she looks solid early on and has a nice pedigree. Between her and the much more aggressive Remi S., this team has a chance to mature into a force in the league, combined with what is already here, i.e. Cecelia and Emma S., etc.

Bucknell outshot them 49%/37%.
