Forget about the loss today, we're back! After a woeful five-year hibernation, Columbia is finally competitive and will get better each game. Rubi de la Rosa scored 28 points today to lead the Lions, but unlike last year he now has a very strong supporting case with Bedri, Brown, Murphy, Thompson and others. Columbia cam very close to winning today, but for an unfortunate technical foul and a turnover or two. My opinion is that Brown is going to be an excellent point guard.

I agree that we did better today. DLR got his 28 pts., Brown got 19, and there were moments when we looked like a competitive program. But we still gave up 1.11 pts per possession, lost by 3 away to a KenPom team ranked 314, and dropped a couple of more spots in KenPom to 337. So while I did see some progress, I can't yet say I'm as optimistic as you are.

I am still disappointed that we could not close it out. A better effort but we still have a lot of work to do.

True. We'll win on Wednesday at home against Delaware, KP#361, which will get us over the hump of a first victory and wrap up the introductory phase of the season. But then the question becomes whether we can begin to defeat teams above us in KenPom. We have already seen DLR, Bedri, and Brown break out; what we await now is evidence that the much-touted Blair Thompson can do so.

Is Murphy going to become a big time player? This is his third year as a starter yet he still seems to have some shortcomings in his game, specifically the ability to create his shot and his accuracy from 3 point range.

Isn't it actually just his second yr. as a starter? There was no bball in 2020.
Murphy is streaky. I think Engles is trying to get him to diversify his repertoire beyond just stand and shoot 3s, which is why we have seen him inside a bit more these first three games. The problem is that so far, that strategy has yet to compensate for the games in which he would be one of our hottest shooters from outside.

I understand cc66 and Chet Forte's skepticism that things are finally better for Columbia Basketball given the horrors of the past five years and the misery we, in particular, have endured together posting on this board. We three, and a couple of others, deserve purple hearts for our pain and suffering. However, my instincts tell me that the crime wave is nearly over, and, unless something screwy happens, this year's Columbia Team will be posting more "W'S" than "L's"in the future. The talent is there now. Bedri and the other three freshmen are all very talented and along with de la Rosa, Murphy, Odunomo and others, the Lions have now sufficient firepower to be victorious.

Ah, yes, may it end soon--the suffering of our small, hardy band...
