I have a worry that the Tigers may overdo attacking inside where the matchups look juicy. It’s fine to run the normal offense, but forcing it in there with too much insistence could lead to painful turnovers. Perimeter players will have to hit open shots and drive in when defensive close-outs are too aggressive.

Defensively, it’s tempting to try to smother Dingle with double-teams and take your chances with Slachert and Spinoso. But the big thing here might be forcing turnovers via ball pressure and active hands, as the Quakers are pretty vulnerable there.

Line is now Penn by 1. Precious little difference.

As a basketball game, no. As a betting choice, obviously following the money.

I hate to sound too casual, but a loss today won't upset me that much. Especially since Penn needs this game a whole lot more than we do. Going 3-2 with 4 road games is perfectly fine in this year's Ivy.

As we learned last season, being the 1st seed in the Ivy Tourney ain't worth a dime. The most important thing is to address our flaws en route to the Madness. With the IT being at Jadwin this year, I'll feel the same about our chances whether we're 9-5 or 11-3.

PU getting hammered on the boards, but forcing Dingle into some really tough shots. Lots of potential on the offensive end, as some good shots haven't gone in.

Lots of careless TOs and fumbled rebounds. Penn playing with more energy... which is to be expected given the circumstances.

18-18. Tigers not getting a ton of help from the officials, as even the Penn announcers have noticed repeatedly. Tosan is picking his spots and playing pretty well. Only one trey has gone down so far. Dingle playing like a hot dog, which has mostly worked in the Tigers' favor. Still need to do a better job on the defensive glass.

Not a bad half, just started off way too casual with the lazy passes and unusually weak rebound attempts.

Hope Austin is okay. I'm guessing he'll sit out the rest of the game just as a precaution, even if he doesn't show signs of concussion.

Down 25-26 at the half. Penn probably feeling like they're doing OK to be ahead with their backcourt getting shut down. PU probably thinking no way they go 2-13 again on wide-open treys.

I'm thinking that the Tigers really need to make sure to hold onto the ball after they get both hands on it on a rebound.

Tough half. Shooting is cold for both teams but Tigers getting open shots from three-point line that should start falling. Nine Princeton turnovers in the half, including several unforced. Need to clean that up in the 2nd half.

Not to look too far ahead, but if Penn wins, Tigers and Quakers will be tied for second in the IL.

With Dartmouth.

Treys still scarce (except for Tosan!), but some uncharacteristic midrange jumpers have PU up 36-32. Analytics be damned (when the D is taking away the three-point line and the rim).

I love that drive by Lee. Gotta get him more involved the rest of the season - he's our fastest player and can finish with either hand. If nothing else, he can get FTs to break scoring droughts.

Might have survived Brown if we let him attack the rim in the 2nd half.

Another DR stolen from a careless player. Getting stops on the shot isn't helpful if you turn it over immediately after rebounding.

A couple of times now where a PU foul inside was accompanied by a block to prevent the possibility of a three-point play. Could be the difference in a close game.

Caden Pierce is a real spark plug - drawing fouls, grabbing tough rebounds, defending multiple positions.

Penn wearing down now. The lead has steadied at 10-13 and PU is maintaining defensive focus and doing better on the offensive glass.

Just have to withstand Penn's last desperate surge now, which is no gimme.

Fail to double Dingle, and he hits and draws a phantom foul on Pierce, but misses the FT.

Dingle trips and they call a bogus foul on Alocco. Still a three-possession lead under 2:30

Langborg has been nails tonight on D and with floor plays like breaking the Penn press with under 90 seconds left.

Nice recovery after the Brown loss. We're gonna have to win more ugly games like this if we want a trip to the Big Dance.

Even when we were up 10 against Brown, I noticed we had gotten away from our gritty, defensive-minded approach. The 3s were falling so we didn't fight for every rebound or go up strong at the rim. Sure enough, our 3s stopped falling and Brown squeaked out a victory.

Tonight, we got back to basics and won despite 4-25 3pt shooting (virtually all wide-open looks too).

72-60 win, not as close as the score indicated. A good example of how this team has more than one way to win. The treys weren't falling, but Alocco and Langborg shutting down Dingle and Slajchert for most of the game was an OK trade-off, as the rest of the Tigers were more than a match for the Quakers.

Great defensive effort on Penn's guards, coupled with a
huge effort from Tosan.
penn is tied with Harvard and Yale. they won't all make the
Tournament.

Really impressed with that win and beating Penn always brings me joy. The shots were not falling but the Tigers gritted out the win on defense and on the boards. Tigers have some real scrappers. This looks like a year when “winning ugly” is going to be key and we seem to have guys who can do it. Dingle and Slajchert were swarmed on defense and the duo went a woeful 7 for 32 from the field.

Seven straight over the Quakers now. Is that the longest streak this century? Even earlier?

Random observations:

1. Nice job hugging the Penn shooting duo out beyond the arc, and then everyone collapsing to the lane when they drove. I think they learned from being beaten by Lilly and Wojcik.

2. I finally saw Spinoso shoot (and miss) a hook with his right hand. I hope he never perfects it.

3. We sent everyone to the offensive boards. I would surmise we had no fear of the Penn fast break.

4. Martini looked very tight after missing his first three point shot.

...in fact it's now 15 of 17 (!) dating back to that streak, with the only two losses coming in 2018

2 wins out of 17? A winning percentage below the New York Jets, but above the Washington Generals.

In the stretch from 93 to 96 Penn won 8 straight under Fran Dumpty. In 96 the teams finished the season tied at 12-2. The Tigers won a playoff and went to the NCAA tournament to play UCLA.You know the story.
