Tiger freshman Madison St. Rose was named Ivy Rookie of Week after her best 3 games of the season. She had 55 points in those contests including a team high 15 against arch rival Penn in a key matchup Saturday.
One of the most sought after recruits in the country last year Tiger fans hoped she would assume the scoring load that Kaitlyn Chen filled last year as running mate for Ivy POY Abby Meyers. After a slow start to the season St. Rose has gained in confidence lately and states her teammates have been totally supportive. She will be a big part of the Tigers' effort to return to the Ivy tournament. At present Princeton is on the outside looking in. Harvard at 3-2 enjoys the tie breaker advantage for the 4th spot.

It was 55 points in the last 4 games - Hartford was not much of a test (8 wins total last 4 seasons):

Penn: 15 (6/12)
Brown: 6 (2/9)
Hartford: 19 (9/14)
Cornell: 15 (5/9)

Getting better; room for further improvement, and as you say Tigers will need it, especially to match up wth Harvard and Columbia.

Time flies, but not that fast. The key matchup against Penn was on Monday.

As for Madison St. Rose, since last year she was highly touted – and committed to Princeton – I saw a lot of video clips of SJV’s games on nj.com. What struck me was her lack of quick bursts of speed to beat defenders (a la Kayla Padilla) or to get to open spots. It almost seemed like she was playing at less than full speed. That’s what I still see now: she doesn’t really have the quickness, bursts of speed, or even the change of speeds (like Kaitlyn Chen) to consistently beat D-1 defenders. If she can receive passes when she is open with time, she can make shots – the best spots for her seem to be the deep corners (such as 2 of 3 of her 3-pointers against Penn). I hope she will develop, but I am not willing to bet she will become a star, like first-team, or second-team, All Ivy. I have higher expectations that a couple of future stars will come out of next fall’s incoming freshman class.

The most impressive part of the Women’s game is on team defense. If St. Rose fits into that (I assume that Berube thinks she does), then she does not have to be a mainstay on offense.

Only to a point. Stating the obvious, against good teams you need some scoring balance, not merely defense.

Agreed. But, even if not balanced or quick, she can pop from the corners when she gets free.
