Weak stuff from MH. You read the article and it sounds like a routine loss that came down to a few mistakes. This was one of the worst, most humiliating defeats in program history. Oof.
Honestly, it sounds like the team is finished - their confidence went from 10 to 0 in 8 minutes. How do you come back from this? What a year to have Ivy Madness at Jadwin... if only we hosted last year

This year, last year, whatever.
Mitch can't beat Yale.

They have had problems with the press all year. it was a problem again tonight. If you have a chance, go to you tube and search "how to break a press by Jay Wright. Villanova never had the problem with it when he was there. Mitch needs to watch it.
Get Jay on the horn!

Mitch’s quotes in that article add insult to injury. He took no blame for that debacle? The turnovers started piling up after the Tigers started trying to burn clock. I can’t believe that it was the players’ decision to abandon the game plan that had them taking it to the Bulldogs for most of the game and earning them the huge lead. It wasn’t the players’ decision to foul Yale when they were up 3 with14 seconds to play. I really feel for Tosan and the rest of the players.

It was a bad loss, but it need not define the season.
On the positive side, they outplayed the team that
gives them the most trouble until Mitch took the foot off the gas.
Yale will be tougher with Knowling, but I like our chances in a third meeting at Jadwin.
Ewe need to win the last two against teams we should beat,
and figure out to replace Austin's minutes. Before the
season, I think we would have taken 8and 4 at this point.

You never know. 98-99 Princeton came from way back to win at the Palestra andto 7-0. Penn fans thought we would never beat Princeton. Next weekend was Dunphy's finest hour as Penn beat Yale and Brown and won out. Princeton lost to Yale (2OT) and then to Harvard the next weekend. Penn closed it out at Jadwin.

Penn closed it out at Jadwin.
Quite the understatement.

Agree on the 8-4 observation. I just hope this doesn't devolve into a finger-pointing, confidence shattering crap show. The Penn game will be quite important. MH is SD's Jones. We sure do need a real PG

Quite agree. Allocco is a good ball handler and tough around the hoop but not a natural penetrator/distributor.

A true PG can be handy for bringing up the ball by dribbling against full-court pressure, but it isn't necessary to run the half-court offense if there's enough passing and movement across the board. Weisz wasn't a point guard but he had no trouble keeping the offense flowing.
The Tigers this season are doing a lot of iso stuff that works when there's a clear mismatch, but leads to turnovers and lots of standing around off the ball.
In theory, that approach should be fine with a short shot-clock--no need to work it around, just break down your man and go--but the problem is that clear mismatches aren't that common, and if the D helps at all, there isn't crisp readiness to exploit that help in the remaining few seconds.

Weisz was a bit of a unicorn, and he always worked with either TJ Bray or Amir Bell. If we like Tosan to Weisz, we still have no Bray or Bell.

It's pretty interesting to watch how the offense runs with different personnel on the floor this season. For example, O'Connell plays like an old-school Princeton center. With Kellman and no Tosan, the perimeter players, Allocco or Lee act more like point guards.
(The most likely candidate for a Weisz-like role in future years would probably be Pierce, who has versatility and that anticipation knack.)

Future years....oy. Without Hooks, we look very small next year.
