Not available on PennAthletics, but seasonwide stats comparing first half defense with second half defense would really tell the tale of the tape for this season.

Maybe giving a few guys more run (and I don’t mean Jonah who inexplicably played yesterday) might have helped this season to save some late legs. Either that or our coach can’t account for halftime adjustments.

In Ivy games, Penn outscored their opponents in the first half by 96 points. They were outscored in the second half by 23 points. The opponents did better in the second half in 12 of the games.

Part of it must be coaching; part must be stamina; part must be depth. In their non-Ivy games they outscored their opponents by 10 in the first half and 32 in the second half.

That seems to eliminate the stamina and depth argument, but not the coaching argument as league games are scouted must more closely.

I'll bet that the OOC splits look a whole lot different if you take out the non-DI game against Wilkes and the two quasi non-DI games against Hartford (DI in process of becoming DIII).

In those three games, we outscored our opponents by 76 points.

Same thing happened in the St. Joe's & La Salle non-conference games. Missouri was similar, although we were a 12-point underdog and tied at halftime (as opposed to leading, although we led much of the first half), so I won't include that game.

Give it up, guys. The season’s over. Except, whatever postseason you may elect. Good luck.
