I don’t really like getting PR as a supposed cinderella because it can make the opponent sit up and take notice, but I suppose it comes with the territory:

Yea, it doesn't help, but I guess that's inevitable after the performances in 2022 against Kentucky and Indiana. Two of ESPN's pundits, Alexa Philippou and Charlie Creme, have already identified the game as a potential upset:
https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basket ball/sto...
But Wes Moore won't take Princeton lightly. He was answering press questions on the NC State Athletics website, and among the things he cited was that Ellie has 116 offensive rebounds; he then said that his best rebounder only had about 40 ORs. "We'll have to keep her off the glass," he said.

Overnight, NC State's Diamond Johnson announced that she is out for tonight's game.
I am shocked that the line (NC St. -5.5) hasn't moved. Maybe the Johnson injury was already priced in and bettors assumed she'd be out. But with Johnson out--and assuming Cunningham's shoulder is close to 100%--the game should be closer to even.

I have no idea how they won this game. They were outplayed virtually the entire game, shot about 20% in the second half, and appeared out of it with about 4 minutes to go. Ultimately the defense, which was being gashed regularly, came through by forcing key turnovers. Just remarkable.

That was a grind it out win. Tigers had many opportunities to go ahead and missed so many layups and open looks, it just seemed like this was not their night. But in the end their D saved them and Chen and then Stone hit the shots that won it. So happy to see them advance, they never gave up and played hard all game.

The Tigers did what they've been doing the past few years. Shifted into another gear defensively and gutted one out.
Between the ILT and the Tourney, this has been the best week of basketball in my life. I can now die a happy man.

Same spot as the Indiana ending last year, same strategy, much better tactic.

Tigers made only 1/3 of their field goal attempts but they got 8 more offensive rebounds and NC State committed 11 more turnovers, so Princeton got 19 more chances. They needed them all. Last NC State points came with 5:41 left in 4Q, giving them an 8-point lead. Only 3 scores after that, all 3 pointers by Tigers, 2 by Grace Stone and 1 by Kaitlyn Chen.

Wow! Amazing win. Just like the Tiger men, the women just willed themselves to win through shut down defense despite an off night shooting the ball. The symmetry is pretty crazy—men beat a 2 and now play a 7. Women beat a 7 and now play a 2.

She tried to switch but was screened off by St. Rose who moved into position as play developed. Really fundamental.
Utah will be a tall order with their All Anerican. Also PU only got 14 minutes and 2 points total from its bench, so fatigue may be a factor.

Madison St. Rose has disappeared lately including last night. But Carla keeps her on the floor. She set the screen that gave Stone the open look for the biggest shot of her life. Stone made that same shot to send the first Columbia game into OT.
Utah at home is a tough nut but these kids will leave it all on the floor. No one looks past the Tigers, that's for sure.

Fatigue will definitely be a factor. During the stretch when NC State built the final lead, and we couldn't make a shot, they looked totally gassed, especially trying to get back on defense. And the Huntsman Center is up the hill from downtown, so it's about 4500 ft up, and the altitude may have affected them. Hope they get a lot of rest before 7 pm Sunday.
By the way, I love Grace Stone.

St. Rose had a rough night shooting the ball but along with the beautiful screen she set for Stone's final shot, she had two huge defensive plays also. One was the steal that allowed Chen to cut the lead to two and the other on the final possession that caused the scramble and didn't allow NC St. to get off a shot. A perfect example of people contributing big time on this team even if they're not the ones grabbing the headlines by filling the stat sheets.

Tall order for the Tiger women tonight, playing a #2 seed on its home court. Alissa Pili scored 33 in Utah’s 103 point first round game and will be a handful.
I’m sure Coach Berube will have the team ready and that they will play hard but Princeton will need the Utes to take them lightly, like Zona did vs. the men, in order to stay in this game. Utah has wins this year against both Stanford (#1 seed) and UCLA (#4 seed).

Edit - Spoke too soon. If you are going to take a third of the team's shots, you have to shoot better than 20%.

Hard to win against a Top 10 team on their own court when you shoot 5-25 from 3P and your best player shoots 6-26. But the Tigers played tough D throughout and they did themselves and the Ivies proud.
Thanks to Coach Berube and the seniors, especially Grace Stone, Julia Cunningham, and Maggie Connelly, for an outstanding and impressive season!

They gave it their all, but just didn't have enough left in the tank. Before this weekend, Utah's last game was March 2, losing to Washington State in the Pac 12 tournament. So they were rested, while we played two tough games on March 10 and 11, then had to fly to Utah at 4700 feet to play two higher ranked teams. Very proud of this team.

Agreed. They played hard against a very good team
playing at home. I guess we need to win a first round
game and hope for an upset in the bracket so we don't
play a top 10 team qt home.hope the NCAA changes that
aspect of the Women's Tournament.
But a great season, and reason to hope next year will
be another special one.

Unfortunately, Chen had one of her worst games of the year. She ended up getting her points but had the type of game we've forced Abbey Hsu and Kayla Padilla into. Had to take a ton of shots to get her points, therefore was not very efficient. And when you shoot fifteen free throws and your opponent shoots thirty-seven, well that's a lot to overcome. Not complaining about the officiating, it's just the way it was. Yet despite that, we should have been able to overcome it. When you have twenty-nine more field goal attempts, you have to find a way to be seven plus points better.
Ellie Mitchell was terrific. Eighteen boards, ten offensive, three blocks and two steals.
All in all, it was an awful weekend shooting the ball. Don't know if it was the altitude or what, but today's game was certainly winnable. Just proves how hard it is to win in the tournament.
The team will be special again next year, but their MO may be a little different.

Next year will bring improvements IMHO. This team constantly rose to the occasion, however. I won’t repeat reasons cited for its below average offense this weekend and yet, after a rough start today the Team pulled within 2 points in the 4th period. Berube is a winner. I hope we can keep her for awhile.

Not much more anyone can add. Their defense never let up, which says a lot about their determination notwithstanding offensive frustrations.

Congratulations to Ole Miss. Hope they keep going. Utah beat Stanford at the end of the regular season. And Stanford is not 4,700 feet above sea level, so maybe Ole Miss's challenge was a little lighter. Or maybe not.
