It's official - we're playing Creighton.
I was pulling for Baylor because they're a terrible defensive rebounding team like Missouri (despite being a great off. rebounding team). Also, Baylor - as a perennial Big 12 powerhouse - would be under way more pressure to "crush the nerds" than Creighton, who despite playing in the Big East lacks the NBA/recent champ pedigree of Baylor.
Creighton was a preseason Top 10 who hit a 5-game losing streak, partly due to an injury to their best player, 7-1 Ryan Kalkbrenner. They're way better than their #6 seed. Unlike Arizona or Missouri, Creighton is super-well balanced.
This might be a tougher challenge than Arizona.

Well, when you get to this point of the season, you're going to play someone that's very good or sprinkled with fairy dust. Either way it will be a challenge.

I just wish Creighton had an obvious weakness like Mizzou (rebounding) or even Arizona (low guard scoring). Instead, the Bluejays do everything well and their entire starting five averages 12+ ppg. They even shoot FTs crazy well (78%). They did lose 12 games, but 3 were without Kalkbrenner.

Their 63-53 loss to Nebraska is a game to learn from: an ugly, low-scoring, low-FT affair. Creighton ain't shooting 10-40 from 3 again, but I think we'll grab more offensive boards than Nebraska did.

Well, they lost to Arizona while you guys beat them.
So Creighton will be wearing Cinderella's slippers in this one.
Sorry, Princeton.

Win would be fantastic, but we're playing with house money from here on.

After the brilliant job that Mitch, Brett and the assistant coaches did prepping the team for AZ and MO, we can be confident that they’ll put a strong plan together for Creighton. Go Tigers!

Not yet. But as Sparman says, we're playing with house money. Maybe that bag of money will be covered in fairy dust.

But then again PU beat Arizona? I watched the Creighton-Baylor game yesterday and I believe that if PU plays as well as they did against Missouri they will win? It wouldn't hurt if Allocco has a better game and Kellman gets ten touches???

Thought you guys might find this interesting. ESPN re-seeded the Sweet 16 and has Princeton 15th, ahead of Florida Atlantic. But rather than having to play the 2 seed (Houston), Princeton is playing the 10 seed--Creighton. And who knows, if Princeton wins this game, maybe SD State knocks off Alabama and Princeton can get to the Final Four by just beating the 12 seed. After all, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!!

Creighton's only obvious "weakness" is a lack of depth, which won't matter much from a stamina point of view given the long media timeouts at the NCAAs and given that they've played that way all season long. But if some key guys for them get in foul trouble, that could have an effect.
Looks like a very touch matchup with a smart, skilled, and well-coached team. They can shoot, and they can run offense to get open shots. Best bet for the Tigers will be to keep the pace slow (Bluejays like to go more briskly, even though they're good in the half-court) and continue playing tough, physical basketball on the defensive end. Pierce continuing to OR like he did against Missouri would be nice too.

Any team you play now is going to be a very good team. But better to play Creighton than Alabama.

Princeton had tough matchups with AZ and Mizzou but the Princeton strengths were exactly matched to AZ/Mizzou weaknesses. Both those teams liked to speed it up, relying on turnovers to run and score in transition and both those teams gave up lots of offensive rebounds BEFORE playing Princeton. Princeton didn't turn it over, ran back in transition and got tons of offensive rebounds, forcing AZ/Mizzou to play offense in the halfcourt.
Creighton is a much slower offense (still KP#24) that is very comfortable in the halfcourt vs transition. They are also KP#13 in defensive rebounding. One of their main weaknesses is they don't force many turnovers but their defense is still KP#13. They have beaten and lost to a lot of the sweet 16 already.
I'm sure Mitch will have his guys play their game, which has been enough so far.

Princeton sold out its four section ticket allotment before they went on sale to the public (and I’m sure incented a lot of new memberships in the Princeton Varsity Club). Thrilled that I will be there! If you’re watching on TV, I’ll be the guy wearing orange. Go Tigers!

Watching this extended highlight video of Nebraska's upset of Creighton and Kalkbrenner seems surprisingly slow and easily bumped off his spot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5GDk3TB_dg
In other games, he's shown great touch around the basket and magnet hands to catch passes. But his body is very narrow, and as a result, he got bullied by Nebraska's smaller, thicker defender, Derrick Walker, who's generously listed as 6-9, 245 (looks 6-7, 235). When you're 7-1, your center of gravity is undercut by guys like that.
I think we need to go right at Kalkbrenner on both ends. Don't double him and leave Creighton's shooters open. Instead, let's see if Kellman and Martini can defend him 1-on-1. And have Kellman and Tosan back him down in the post until Kalkbrenner shows he can stop them regularly.

We could know very soon...

Am told by reliable source, Micah Shrewsberry now in talks with Notre Dame. I believe Penn State made its pitch. Whatever is going to happen, stay or go, will happen soon.
