Recently Griffin extended his first 2024 offers. I saw these two but there may have been others.

• Jayden William 6-0 PG (Blair Academy NJ) – offers from Sacred Heart, St Peter’s, Towson, Gardner-Webb, St. Bona, FGCU, NJIT, (Note: Bucknell is only recent offer.)
• Macon Emory 6-8 SF (Philly, Perkiomen School) – offers from Radford, Delaware

There were also a surprisingly low three offers made by ND, all back in the summer of 2022. No idea if Griffin is interested. As things stand now, he will have three spots available. The ND offers:

• Nick Coval 6-1 PG (Allentown PA) – offers from RMU, Drexel, Penn, Fairfield, Toledo, St. Joes, LC, W&M, Delaware, FGCU, Lehigh, American, (2022 Bucknell offer)
• Jay Jones 6-4 SG (MA) – offers from Stonehill, Holy Cross, Mt.St. Mary’s (2022 Bucknell offer)
• Ryan Mela 6-6 SF (MA) – Siena, Holy Cross, Stonehill, Dartmouth, Loyola, UMBC, Colgate, Maine, Boston U, UMass, Towson (2022 Bucknell offer)

Griffin made an offer to Dylan Tingler, a 6–7 SF from West Virginia, the other day. He also has offers from New Mexico State, Ohio U, Akron, and Marshall.

Also Griffin renewed the offer to Jay Jones that was originally made by the ND staff. Jones now has offers from Holy Cross, Stonehill, American, Merrimack, Mt. St. Mary’s, and Columbia.

Here is what the Bison roster will look like in 2023–24, subject to any late additions or defections:

FR - Brandon McCreesh (SG), Patrick O’Brien (PF)
SO - Noel Williamson (C), Ruot Bijiek (PF), Josh Fulton (SG/SF), Brady Muller (SG), Quin Berger (PG)
JR - Elvin Edmonds (PG/SG), Josh Bascoe (PG), Ian Motta (SF/PF), Pipe Ajayi (PF)
SR - Jack Forrest (SF), Josh Adoh (SG/SF)

If no one leaves next spring, then there are only two available scholarships - assuming Berger and Ajayi are both on scholarship, which seems likely. And one was just taken, with the commitment of Jayden Williams. The other one really needs to go to a big man.

I just noticed that there was another offer made in early May that was not listed above: Jack Stanton, a 6-2 CG from Illinois. Stanton now has offers from Stanford, Fordham, St Thomas, Furman, Penn, Yale, HC, Rice, Cal Poly, Miami (OH), and IL State. He obviously is a good player, but with the commitment from Williams, his offer might well be off the table. If there is really only one scholarship left for that class, it really needs to go to a big man.

Since the commitment from PG Jayden Williams for this class, there have been four recent offers to guards:

1. Martin Somerville, a 6-2 PG from Maryland. Has offers from NJIT, MSM, Holy Cross, Albany, and Loyola. Not clear if his offer is still on the table after the commitment of Jayden Williams.

2. Jordan Brathwaite, 6-3 SG from Maryland. Also has a recent offer from Albany.

3. Matthew Lange, 6-2 CG from PA. Son of St. Joes heac coach Billy Lange. Appears to be his first offer.

Also there was nother offer made back in April that I failed to list: Trey O'Neil, a 6-0 PG from PA. Has offers from Bryant and a recent one from UNH (Nathan Davis). Not clear if his offer is still on the table after the commitment from Jayden Williams.

In theory, after the commitment of PG Williams, the Bison only have one remaining scholarship for the class of 2024. Thus it continues to surprise me to see offers to guards when there is such a need for a big man. This I think there is a distinct possibility that there will be another scholarship available through transfer, early graduation, or one of the recent transfers not being on scholarship. Time will tell.

I'm not going to start a new thread for this one - but it's to a 2026 player, i.e. one who is just completing his freshman year in HS. Likely the earliest offer in Bison history.

Offer is to Donovan Carney, a 6-3 CG from Butler PA, north of Pittsburgh. He attended Griffin's elite camp last week. His father played for four years at RMU and his brother currently plays at Denver.

Profile of Donovan Carney

His father is a friend of a friend. It will be interesting to see how he develops. I was surprised to read that Griffen gave him an offer so early.

Another offer to a younger player. This time it is 2025 Jacob Nguyen, a 6-4 SG from a suburb of Philly. He made 2nd team 6A all-state this past winter. At the start of the day, he had no offers, as he finishes his sophomore year. Now he has four: Bryant, Albany, Drexel, and Bucknell. A year from now, he will likely have a huge list.

I’m curious. What is the benefit of offering a player who has 2-3 high years left and who undoubtedly receive many, many offers, including some very good basketball schools? In short, why offer players you know you will never get? I suppose there’s always a chance.

Yes, because there is always a chance. Especially if the player doesn’t make a dramatic improvement over the next year. It helps to build up a relationship, and the way the early offers are structured, they normally can’t be accepted at this point. So there really is little risk. If the player doesn't progress, the offer usually can be taken off the table.

Another issue is that there will be a greater number of scholarships available for the 2025 class - which replaces the current rising juniors (Motta, Edmonds, Bascoe, Ajayi). And Bucknell doesn't have a lot of 2024 scholarships left to give out, so the staff can concentrate a lot on developing relationships with the 2025 players.

One example of an early offer that worked out was Chris Hass. His offer wasn't as early as this, but he did get an offer prior to his junior year of high school. He accepted midway through his junior year. Most of the recruiting was done by Dane Fischer.

As I finished typing the above, another offer goes out to a 2025 player: Jaron McKie, a 6-3 CG who has recent offers from St. Louis, Temple, and Penn and who is the son of Temple coach Aaron McKie. He plays for St. Joes Prep, a school that Griff and his brother obviously know well.

Another offer to a 2025 player, i.e. one who is just finishing his sophomore year: Jacob Meachem – a 5-9 PG from the Hill School (Pottstown PA). First D1 offer.
