Sam Silverstein has entered the transfer portal for 2024-2025. He won't play for Harvard next year but will stay at school to finish his degree.

Since he missed his first year due to the canceled Covid season, he still has two years of eligibility.

In the world of Ivy transfers, he is following the Katie Benzan plan.

Harvard now losses 4 of its 7 main players from last year.

Ledlum (F): 31.5 minutes, 18.8 points, 8.4 rebounds
Tretout (G): 23.4 minutes, 9.7 points, 3.4 rebounds
Silverstein (G): 31.4 minutes, 7.2 points, 5.3 rebounds
Sakota (G): 26.8 minutes, 7.1 points, 3.4 rebounds

They will return:
Nelson (G): 8.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists
Okpara (F): 7.4 points, 3.9 rebounds
Ajogbor (F): 6.1 points, 3.2 rebounds

They will probably return Louis Lesmond, who only played 5 games last year. (7.9 points, 2.6 rebounds 2021-2022)

Never would have thought Harvard would hit such a bottom after it's great run and continued series of highly ranked recruits. With Penn losing the best offensive player in the league, we may see some first time playoff teams next year.

Interesting. Donahue shouldn’t have said anything in that interview last month about no undergrads transferring out of the conference.

Silverstein really seemed like an afterthought with all of the highly ranked Harvard recruits, but he ended up being the guy who played. Curious what is driving this. He’d have a grad year anyway, so not like he didn’t already have the chance to play elsewhere.

Perhaps he is interested in a specific two year grad program and this path will have both years covered by scholarship?

Concerned that a team captain would go this route. As much as Sam was an unselfish Bill Bradley type of player, he is small for a forward and doesn't really have guard skills. Unless his 3 point shooting improves dramatically his value seems to be his unselfishness, hustle and basketball IQ. Not sure how that translates into a Power Conference scholarship. Maybe a mid-major with a respected B-School? (guessing at Sam's post grad aspirations). He appears to be majoring in Applied Mathematics. Would top B-schools like Chicago, NYU and MIT provide basketball scholarships? Would Power Conference Schools like Cal, Northwestern and Stanford feel Sam is scholarship worthy? Maybe at age 23-24 he might be. He's certainly got the grit and hustle.
