Calvin Brown just rung up with two outs and a 3-2 count for not being ready in the batter's box. I was wondering if the Ivies not having the clock yet was going to bite us at some point.

That is truly unbelievable. Could have broken the game open right there.

Penn has the best pitching depth in this regional. Even with Coady at 75%. Helps a lot with this schedule.
We’ll find out now. Coady out after four.

And that's followed up by another bad fielding moment, as Werchan throws the ball away trying to get the batter stretching out a double, and then Miller can't make a good throw to get him at third, either.

. . . but then USM promptly cancels it out when the runner at third gets hung up on a ground ball to Palis and Appel guns him down at third.

So, having gotten crushed and now in an elimination game, does Penn have another pitcher who can shut down a good hitting team? It's a bit strange how they compress the games here after a season in which they play a bunch of games on a weekend and maybe one other during the week.

I think we get the answer today.
They saved Ozmer and Zedlin for this ‘bullpen’ game. Shoemaker will be available and I would not rule out a ‘cameo’ from Dromboski.
No idea what the state of the USM staff is after this weekend though.
I bet the over at 12.5. Penn is plus 165 as of now.

Yes, three straight doubles to start the top of the fourth and Southern Miss is now on their third pitcher of the game.

But 3 singles and walk and a HBP puts the Quakers in trouble with 2 runs in, bases still loaded and no outs

5-5 after four innings but it could have been worse. Dromboski to the rescue. Huge DP.

Thanks LT. our guys made us proud but in the end they lost to a top 20 team that wasn’t overrated.

I watched some of it last night, thanks to the this thread. Our team looked pretty good and pretty composed. The other team looked like a MLB team. I think there is something in their water.
Congrats to the team on a great season. They were so close to Omaha.

Well, not that close. They would have needed to take 2 of 3 from Tennessee to get to Omaha. (I think.)
Still, a great effort. Turns out college baseball can be kinda fun to watch! I'll be keeping an eye on these guys going forward.

Congrats to the team on a great season. Let's not forget that the NINE seniors on this team got SCREWED out of TWO YEARS of eligibility by COVID and the Ivy League's ostrich attitude in response. How much better could they have been?

It was a really nice season for these guys.
Maybe this is obvious but the Penn baseball team has a real online personality. Compare this with the Penn basketball team of which I can only describe as devoid of an interesting online presence.
NYCHoops mentioned a lot of things in his recent post. One of several was that he senses that our staff doesn’t really understand the importance of some modern day means of creating awareness and interest among potential hs basketball players. I’m not saying our staff are duds, but in terms of a social media footprint, they are not very impressive, at least from my perspective.
Congrats to Penn baseball. They’ve peaked a lot of interest for many. I have become a fan and a lot has to do with the Twitter footprint they’ve created.

Yeah, I got a little sick of the announcer mentioning that Appel would be attending Texas A&M next year.
