You can disagree with me. I'll just tell you that my view isn't my opinion, it's based on multiple conversations with guys who work in the NBA (including several former Ivy players). Defending and passing are pre-requisites. Role players who can do that and make open shots get their shot.

Plenty of guys who can do some of those things, many who can't do all three.

Let me be more specific. Anyone can pass, but Tosan is outstanding at seeing the floor and passing. He may be the best in summer league at it. Yes he needs to improve his shooting and I believe he will. He can run an offense from the forward position which is unique. I remember what Rick Pitino said after the Princeton Iona game. He brought up Tosan and said that he is an NBA player but needs to get stronger and improve his jump shot.
If he ultimately makes a roster in the NBA, it won’t be because of his shooting.

If he ultimately makes a roster in the NBA, it will be because he becomes a capable shooter along with his other strengths. Without that, he has little chance.

I noticed that Tosan also had some rebounds and tap outs and was directing traffic a bit. His drives and full-court runs to the rim were good.

This is an interesting thread. I am looking forward to revisiting this topic in about 10 minutes to see what transpires with Tosan

Great start for Tosan. Two nice layups, a steal, and tough low post defense on Sidy Cissoko (forced an ugly brick). Goes to the bench with a 12-4 lead.

Hope he gets to play more than 15 minutes tonight.

EDIT: He's back in and just hit a corner 3. Keep it up!

Lots of minutes today. Not a lot of shots. That was mostly on his teammates' lack of passing ability (a rare skill in SL). But he also passed up 2-3 drives in the 4Q. That's on him.

He played superb defense throughout, stopping every shot he contested. No one scored on him beyond a take-foul on a layup (not his man). Tosan also set great screens all night, freeing up his teammates for open shots.

One more "consolation game" left (TBD). I know he wants to be Mr. Team Player, but he's gotta shoot more in his final game. Glad he hit a 3 and closed the game (another W).

I didn’t watch but if he played great defense and set effective screens I can assure you that it didn’t go unnoticed.

Final game tomorrow @ 5:30p EST on NBA TV.

I hope Ausar Thompson sits out so Tosan and other hopefuls can get some more shots.

In the previous game, wired up coach Jack could be heard repeatedly shouting “Good shift, Tosan” when Detroit was defending. No other names were called.

Based on what you are posting, I don't believe that the Piston coaches care much about his scoring or lack thereof. I think that are looking at his court sense and how much he can energize the offense. We will know a lot more as time goes on.

Great first half for Tosan. 6pts and 6rebs with superb defense on guards and forwards alike. They made a concerted effort to get him the ball in the low post, which was nice. Surprised they didn't let him handle the ball a little since the Pistons guard play has been so poor.

Highlight of the 1st half was a sequence where Tosan sprinted back in transition and blocked a layup by jumping straight up, came down with the rebound and then found the 3pt trailer on the fast break.

Very light touches in the second half. Sasser caught fire (40 pts) and shot virtually every possession for the last 15 minutes.

Boxscore doesn't show it, but Tosan made lots of big defensive plays, leading to fast-break buckets that broke the game open. The scorer missed 2 blocks and 2 rebounds. Tosan looked a bit bummed to be taken out of the offense after working so hard on defense.

Not sure how long Detroit has to turn his Exhibit 10 into a 2-way. Hopefully he doesn't have to wait too long.

I forgot to mention that Tosan also got to rep his squad for the obligatory "What does your team need to do?" interview. Usually, those go to the guaranteed players (e.g. Sasser).

He was also a team-high +52 in his 3 SL games. Limited sample but backs up his winning play.

Looks like he belongs at this level. But projecting from Summer League to the main event can be hazardous.

In today's Detroit Free Press:

Tosan Evbuomwan

Princeton forward Tosan Evbuomwan (20) dribbles the ball against Yale during the first half of the Ivy League championship NCAA college basketball game, Sunday, March 12, 2023 in Princeton, N.J.
Although Summer League head coach Jarrett Jack did not play Evbuomwan the first two games, his play in the last three may make the final two-way roster decision a tough one for for Pistons general manager Troy Weaver.

SHAWN WINDSOR:Pistons' Tom Gores: Rebuild has taken longer than planned; it's time to win now

The 6-foot-8 former Princeton forward showed good driving ability, defensive potential and some interior savvy on the offense end. The native of the United Kingdom forced a lot of ball pickups. His dribble drives to the basket were impressive as well, making many Pistons fans optimistic about what he can become.

Evbuomwan averaged seven points per game along with a 50% field goal percentage. In those three games, he had a 12-point performance against the San Antonio Spurs, in which he knocked down 50% of his field goals and the only 3-pointer he attempted.

He also had a plus/minus of plus-52 in Las Vegas, leading the team in that stat respectively. He was a difference maker and had a quiet-yet-convincing campaign.

Evbuomwan helped lead Princeton to the NCAA tournament in March. The Tigers reached the Sweet 16, the furthest in program history. During his senior campaign, he averaged 15.1 points along with 4.9 assists and a 51.5% field-goal percentage. The undrafted free agent was signed to an Exhibit-10 deal shortly after the draft.
