NCAA adds a second women's tournament ... WNIT to continue ... so it looks like 156 women's teams to postseason play - about 44% of D1 Schools.
NCAA: 68 teams
WBIT: 32 teams (NCAA will put on the tournament)
WNIT: 48 teams (Schools pay)
WBI: 8 teams (assuming it continues)
Columbia & Harvard likely would have made the WBIT
Penn would have made the WNIT
In looking back over the recent history, four women's teams would likely make some postseason tournament ... the 5th & 6th place teams are around 200 RPI, but if every post season team does not have a losing record ... likely teams up to a 200 NET raking will be in play ... so the 5th & 6th place teams should be thinking about a schedule that gets them a winning record.
What will be interesting will be the seeding of the next 36 and how home games / sites are determined ... In the WNIT the schools have to bid for home games, so it really depends on how much a school is willing to pay to keep it's team home ... Columbia has been in exceptional in that regards the past two seasons.
