Took less than 20 seconds for pitino to say “this is professional basketball”

a couple of quotes from JD are interesting:
"I really wanted to come play closer to home"
"I wanted to play at a higher level than where I was"
"I wanted to win"
I never believed we had any chance of keeping JD for his last year no matter what Penn did and nothing he said here changed my mind.

"The only thing that they can say about me is that I haven't won."
"It's nice to play with a Hall of Fame coach."
Last year's choke just killed the program.

JD's is certainly entitled to his comments and opinions.
He was an excellent player for Penn, and I wish him well this year at St. John's.
I look forward to him making it to the NCAA Tournament and picking up his SJU diploma this spring.

None of us can see inside Jordan's head, but I agree that we can't just write this off that Jordan was going to leave regardless of anything the program had done.
If the program was a winning program with better supporting players, that would clearly be a harder argument to make for outsiders that he "never won".
Equally if this were a winning program and Jordan had the chance to show out in the NCAAs against top competition, it would be a harder argument to make against him from outsiders that he didn't score against better players at the highest stage.
In all honesty, while I am extremely bummed as a Penn fan, as long as Jordan can get his Penn degree, then I think this was the right move for him. I don't think we would have won this year even if he was here, and a player of his caliber DESERVES to play in the NCAAs at least once. I really hope he gets to do so at St. Johns and will be a fan of him wherever basketball takes him.

I'm no expert, but I believe there is a way that Jordan can eventually get his Penn degree...

Assuming that what we have heard about the amount of money he is being paid is true, I can't say that he made a mistake even if he does not receive a Penn diploma.

Possible,if he didnt graduate from st johns, common for pre pro players to take enough fall courses to be eligible, then minimal courses/effort during spring semester and not complete courses

Makes sense and this was the path for Jordan I was thinking about. Basically, if he didn't get the St. Johns degree, I was assuming he could come back to finish Penn degree.

The new rules concerning transfers and money may end up helping the non HPY Ivies. It is the 3-star recruits that those programs have the most of that are most likely to leave.

That makes sense, but it has generally gone the other way. Undergrad transfers have been guys like Dingle, Cambridge, and Boudreaux who have been big scorers for non HYP schools. Obviously there have been changes in the landscape even since Cambridge and Boudreaux.
Overall, the league has had a remarkable lack of undergrad transfers compared to the rest of the world. Grad transfer rules, on the other hand, arguably help Ivy recruiting on the front end. We may get some guys who wouldn’t have come prior to grad transfer mania. But the downside is that we get them for 3 years instead of 4.
