Great story on the game and its history in the Asbury Park Press: https://www.app.com/story/sports/college/ rutgers/2...

Doesn’t sound like ticket sales are very good. But I liked this unexpected storyline:

“Rutgers will push the ball when the opportunity presents, but the Scarlet Knights also own a huge matchup edge at center in 6-foot-11 All-Big Ten wrecking ball Cliff Omoruyi. Princeton doesn’t have a true postman; face-up four Zach Martini will fill the role with plenty of double-team help.

Martini, a Gill St. Bernard’s grad, knows Omoruyi well, having lost two heartbreakers to the latter’s Roselle Catholic squad in the NJSIAA Tournament championship.

“Me and Cliff would go head-to-head,” Martini said. “I’m really excited for that matchup – would love to come away with a victory this time. Great player, great guy. This would mean a lot to me, to get this one.””

At least Martini won’t be in shock facing the big guy.

Can't wait to see the starting lineup on Monday. I have no idea who's starting at SF with Austin seemingly out for most of the season. Sangster? Scott? I do expect Dalen Davis to start.

Should be a legit 8-9 deep rotation this year with only Pierce and Allocco guaranteed 30+mpg

Line looks down to +4.5, probably telling us something about the crowd's opinion of Princeton this year and/or Mawot Mag's availability.

...or maybe it's just bad data on ESPN, a friend outside NJ says it's +6 instead

And I think I found a local sports bar with Peacock. I'll literally be wearing my PU allegiance on my sleeve (socks, too, but nobody will see those in a best-case scenario).

My only option is to sign up for Peacock, then cancel within seven days. Hate to give them my credit card though.

Princeton 32-28 at half, probably should be down a couple points if Rutgers hadn't missed so many layups. Very little surprising about who or how - 28 of 32 from the five starters, led by 13 (6-7 shooting) from Allocco. Davis played a little but didn't do much, nor did anyone else off the bench.

Super small sample, but Princeton led 20-8 in eight minutes with the five starters on the floor.

As much as I liked Tosan, I must say there was a lot of standing, watching him work, waiting for the pass.

This team moves the ball and keeps bodies in motion on the offensive end. Fun to watch.

The Tiger Iron Five looked really solid playing a good team on their home court. Even without Tosan and Ryan they managed to find plenty of good shots and open threes.

It is a small lineup but they sure didn’t play small with many tough rebounds (led by Pierce) and drives to the rim (led by Allocco). Lee’s game is at a new level, he is the only Tiger who can break down a defense on his own.

Every starter made a huge contribution and the defensive intensity was high throughout the game. Really nice win to start the season.

Next challenge will be to develop some reserves who can hold down the fort. Tonight they were -20 as a group and all of them individually were in the red.

46-24 in the 20(!) minutes with the starting five together, 22-37 in the other 20. Mitch rode the starters for the final 10 minutes straight so that's probably not a fluke.

I'm significantly higher on this team than I was a couple hours ago - some depth would be nice but the best five usually wins. Barring injury (and especially if Austin comes back) this team will be very good.

Tigers win 68-61! WOW! What a win. I caught most of the second half and I was super-impressed with their grit.

I honestly thought they'd lose by 12-15 in their first post-Tosan game. I was wrong about Davis starting - they went with experience - though Dalen and Huggins both got 9 minutes.

- Despite MH's talk about Xavian being upset with him, Lee looked plenty comfy and played to his strengths. So smooth on offense and much improved on defense. He still made a few mistakes, but that never shook him. I love that. Very resilient and a "big play" type of guy.

- Allocco thrived as The Man on offense. 21 points on 9-13 shooting. He was always the best tough shot maker on the team and that came in handy today against a tough Rutgers defense. Can't wait to see more of Mush Unleashed!

- Caden Pierce is Dennis Rodman's long lost nephew. 15 rebounds including 6 offensive! His constant extra chances makes up for a lot of our post-Tosan, post-Langborg offensive challenges. His defense is stellar too - moves his feet and doesn't commit bad fouls.

- Martini + double-teams were able to slow down Omoruyi, and his 3pt shooting drew Omoruyi away from the basket on offense. Smallball worked like a charm today.

- I was surprised to see Peters starting but he's certainly earned it. Made 3 treys and only 1 TO. No slouch on defense either - everyone really stepped it up from last year.

I’m thrilled by the Tigers big win tonight! Horrendous traffic and parking management by our capital city meant I spent most of the first half in gridlock traffic but the second half was worth the wait (actually entered the arena just in time to see Matt Allocco’s score to go up 4 at the half).

This team is tough! The arena got very loud with Rutgers fans several times in the second half but the Tigers didn’t get rattled. That was the kind of game that Princeton used to lose by 3 or 4 points back in the day.

Blake Edwards still has his stroke and Lee played at a new level—RU made it very close at one point and Lee drove the lane on back to back possessions to score when it really counted.

The two freshmen looked like … freshmen but I think both will be valuable members of this team very soon. Davis got by his man on a quick move then dribbled the ball off his foot. The forward looked pretty lost most of the time.

The Tigers besting Rutgers the night after the Eagles beat the Cowboys. Fantastic!

Go Tigers!

After watching the tigers for the last year, we must realize that Mitch Henderson is an absolutely great coach. I just hope a power team doesn't try to recruit him away.
