What a strange but satisfying game.
Down 14 at one point in the first half, with Chen and St Rose in foul trouble and ultimately fouling out, and Ellie picking up a silly flagrant foul late in the game, Tigers still won.
Skye Belker looked awful Monday, shooting 0-10, but today she was the high scorer and looked good doing so. The freshmen shot 1-19 against Duquesne. Today they were 8-17. Major improvement.
Now on to UCLA….

One of the mist impressive road wins in the Berube Era. Defense kept us in the game and the freshmen stepped up. Wow!

I didn't think Belker looked awful on Monday. She just couldn't get a shot to fall. Today some went in. I guess it's similar to any team. When you make shots, you look good. When you don't you look bad. Tigers snapped Middle Tennessee's 29 game home winning streak. Certainly a quality win against a pretty tough team. Nice to see Amelia Osgood ice it with those final two free throws. Both Morton and Thiers had pretty good games also.

Very impressive win against excellent competition on their home court. I did not think the Tigers could pull out the W with Kaitlyn and Maddy sitting on the bench but that is exactly what they did.
Tough 3Q shooting turned the game around and then the “next women up” closed it out. Skye Belker and Ashley Chea were both dependable and composed down the stretch, they are going to be big contributors this year.

In her preseason interviews, Carla seemed to be counting on Tabitha Amanze for size and athleticism in the post, last seen with Bella Alarie. But with the sudden and strange injury to Tabitha after only two minutes in the Duquesne game (today she was in a knee-high boot on her lower left leg), Carla must have been hearing Robert Burns's "To a mouse" in her head. So, the play today of Thiers, Morton and Hill had to be somewhat gratifying and encouraging. They handled the 6'6" Boldyreva, and particularly Thiers was quite effective, both on offense and defense. But the next challenge is UCLA's 6'7" Lauren Betts. We'll see how they fare.
And today NC State defeats UConn, making the win over NC State last March a bit more impressive.

Really a bummer to see Amanze in that massive walking boot. Easy to forget she was a 4 star recruit coming out of Blair and you hate to see a kid miss an entire year and then get hurt straight away on return to the court.
