Wow, Malik Mack is special. Those last two minutes of regulation were something else, the way he kept coming up with the shots we needed to tie it up (and Batties too!). The most impressive thing about his performance, though, was how he was able to bounce back from a very rough start. UMass’s physical defense and aggressive denial had him looking tentative and out of sorts for the first 10 minutes. But it didn’t faze him, he figured it out, settled down, and put on a show after that.
Lesmond has become automatic on open looks and even converted a few contested ones. Just having the threat of him on the court helps our offense so much by creating driving lanes. Hard to overstate how much we missed him last year.
Pigge has improved so much too. He had decent shooting form last year but just had a low release point that made his shot flat and kept him from making very much. He’s done a great job working on that.
Okpara is still struggling to convert in the paint but you have to think that will turn around soon. He’s too good for it not to. If we can get him going, our offense could actually be really good.
What a win. We get to enjoy it for … 19 hours.
