They are just too good defensively. Zero space to operate so far. Keying on Kino but still not leaving much room.

And somehow PC is getting the benefit of the calls. Very physical and the only physical fouls called were two questionable charges on Brown. PC bumping Brown a lot without calls.

37-13 at the half. That’ll teach me to try an in-game thread.

For what it’s worth Brown’s at least turned them over some. But Providence also shooting the lights out.

13 points in the first half. This is a very good Providence defense - #18 in the country, according to Kenpom - but Columbia was able to put up 27 in the first half of their matchup with the Friars. Need to come out and play for pride in the second half. Maybe Lesburt will get some court time - need someone to make outside shots, as we cannot score against their big men in the half court.

Yeah the little room we’ve found we haven’t been able to make a shot.

I think you need to pull Cooley after his 2nd foul on the same guy while shooting a three. Both were fouls. You can’t tolerate that.

Might they want to try to speed it up in the half court? They are pressing Brown still but Brown still taking the shot clock down to the low single digits.

Hope Mike will start emptying the bench - at least let some of the younger guys get some run against a Big East team. Nice to see Wrisby-Jefferson knock down a three.

74-54 final. Their offensive output in the 2nd half and Nana’s performance were bright spots. Offense didn’t work in the 1st but I thought that had as much to do with Providence suffocating D as it did inept O. That was as bad a game as I’ve ever seen from Cooley.

Cooley always seems to run hot and cold - I'm hoping that this was just an off game against an opponent with the kind of size and physicality on the wings that we're not likely to see in conference play. I am a little surprised that he got 35 minutes today, given that I don't think he was particularly effective on either end of the court. But Mike has been running with seven guys (starters plus Kimo and Mal) of late, so clearly he doesn't feel like he's going to get anything from going further down the bench.

Providence turned the ball over on 23% of their possessions - the only game in which they turned the ball over more frequently was against a Kansas State team in ranked in the Kenpom's Top 50. In spite of that, we lost by 20 in a game that was never really competitive after half-time. Our defense has the potential to be very good, but that doesn't really mean anything if our offense is going to continue to scuffle. It will be interesting to see if Mike and co. can draw something up in the 12 days between now and the next game.
