I don’t want to jinx Sam Brown but he just may be the best long range shooter to play at Penn since Scott Kegler.

Perkins' prayer bank 3 with 1:29 left in OT was incredible.

Spinoso must hold that rebound. Far too often we just get outworked..and Slajchert turned it over twice when Penn had a chance to clinch.

77-73 ot win against a bad team on the road. Well, improvement over Md Eastern Shore, but the same issues stand out---wilting under pressure and giving up crucial offensive rebounds in clutch situations (although we rebounded overall well). Other teams seem to step it up in close games at the end--we must do the same.

I thought the entire offense bogged down in the second half, when Rider went small and made it more difficult for Spinoso to work in the post. They doubled him and took away the passing lanes, and no one made shots off isolation plays. Way too many missed layups when there were opportunities.

At least we managed to hang on for the win. When the game went to OT, I got worried.

I think winning a game like this rather than losing it is a big step for this team. My guess is that the experience of persevering will help them not just with handling close games at the end, but also with avoiding ending up in a close game in the first place.

Had to be our worst offensive game of the season, or close to it. I still want to see more experimentation with matchups. We still seem to be mirroring the opponent’s size rather than seeing if there is a matchup to exploit. I wonder if more time for Gerhart or Laz/Holland would have been something to try today.

Anyway, a road win is always a good win in my book, particularly in a game where Clark didn’t shoot it well (and turned it over more than usual). Good to pull one out when your star has an off day.

When Gerhart came in in the first half, James the Wake transfer went at him on three straight possessions for scores, and Augie looked overwhelmed physically. I think that’s why we didn’t see him again.

They just didn’t make any shots in the second half. Rider going small made some of their close outs a little more challenging than they were in the first, but we still missed a TON of good looks from the perimeter, as well as in the paint. Slajchert in particular got nothing in his midrange game, and he and Perkins both blew a couple of point blank layups down the stretch. Hitting even one of those or avoiding a couple of the turnovers those two had would have ended it in regulation.

Correction: James was the N Alabama transfer. Ingraham is the Wake guy.
