Josiah Cunningham 6’2” SG 2024 Coronado (Henderson NV)
This solid wing scorer put his name in the conversation for a national Top 75 spot based on his play at the Best of Vegas. He has the handle to create and can flat out knock down jumper if left open around the 3-point arc. He lit it up to the tune of 27 points in the 2024 game. D-1’s better get his name on their lists of players to watch!

6?4 Cunningham is one of the most versatile scorers in the state. You can make the argument that he’s the best three point shooter, transition finishers and 1 v 1 players in the state. The D1 prospect jumps 2 spots in the rankings, entering the top 5.

Cunningham looked like one of the top players in the state is supposed to against pre-season competition. He scored at will in transition, and was able to lock up on defense. He showed big time explosiveness hammering home a windmill dunk in transition.

Josiah Cunningham is a terrific basketball player and should make an immediate impact in the Ivy League. I agree that the incoming class looks great and whomever is responsible for the huge uptick in recruiting deserves recognition. Love cc66's prediction which actually seems quite conservative under the circumstances. Barring something weird happening, Columbia appears poised to have finally recruited sufficient talent to compete very strongly for the Ivy League Championshipas early as the 2024-25 season.

Maybe I am too conservative in my projections, and I do hope you are right, but I hold back a bit because while the quality of our guards will be excellent next year, I don't think the front court, especially the centers, will have matured enough to win a title. So I am predicting something like a 19-9 record next year, and upwards from that afterwards.

You're right, I probably overlooked the very issue plaguing the Lions this year as well as in the past several years namely the lack of size and skill in the front court. That will only get worse with Josh O's graduation unless the coaching staff can develop one of the remaining bigs on the roster, or finds an immediate impact guy in one of the two incoming freshman. Let's hope so.

Yes, that's the issue. Perhaps Arop Arop will hit the weight room, but he's a forward, not a center. After that, we are left with Tavroff, Bedri, and possibly Mason Ritter, 6'9"/230, the only incoming recruit with a legitimate claim as a center, but one who would doubtlessly be overmatched in his first year.
Tavroff and Bedri have a lot of work to do if we are to be truly competitive.

As always, you are right on target with your analysis and comments, but I disagree with your comment that Mason Ritter "... would doubtlessly be overmatched in first year." Sure it's a huge leap from high school to college hoops, and our Ivy League opponents are stocked with very good post players, however, my sense is that Mason Ritter has what it takes to step right in and be successful immediately as Columbia's starting center as a freshman. Sure, he will be facing some very talented players like Yale's 6'11' star center Danny Wolf, but Ritter at 6'8" 230-235 looks big, strong and very athletic on film. Of course, I am not writing off the possibility that someone else on the Columbia roster such as Bedri or Nweke will beat him out for the starting center position, but I doubt it. Incidentally, the other incoming big, Nigel Clarkson also looks like an excellent prospect.

Well, let's hope that Ritter who just scored 25 pts. in a recent game is up to the task. Although I certainly expect he'll get some playing time, it's a lot to ask for a first year to compete with more experienced centers.
Another option that you mentioned, but I omitted in my original post, is Richard Nweke. I think he was supposed to be NYS-all-state, but since he's been pretty invisible this year, it's hard to tell what we've got.
Three positions in next year's lineup seem pretty secure: DLR, Brown, and Thompson. (The new guards look exceptional, but it's going to take a lot to displace the Juniors and Seniors). That leaves the center position that we've discussed, and a forward position, whose most likely candidates would be Arop Arop if he develops and possibly Clarkson.
Of course, all this speculation about next season is a distraction. Let's just hope that this weekend, we can beat Penn.
