In the end, a loss is a loss is a loss. I don't know that losing a heartbreaker feels better than losing a fluky blowout. I hope this gets the guys FIRED UP for next weekend.

Lots of favorites getting beat in away conference games across the country this year. Not sure the IL is immune, especially against a good team like Cornell.

Brian Earl is a heckuva coach. We played our worse game of the season, but even if we played to our average level, Cornell still would have won today. And they did it without Gray.
Hate having to wait a week to play again. I would think the guys come out fired up in New Haven. They looked very tight and overly cautious from the start instead of playing with joy, like Lee usually does.

I swear this season is especially volatile in terms of road upsets. That Arizona loss to Oregon State the other night was insane. Wildcats ran into a buzzsaw.
It's worth noting that Princeton was the only 1-loss team in all of Division 1 until today. Even now they're in the exclusive 2-loss club (9 teams out of 360).

As for the 3-point shooting anomaly, 5-27 is putrid, but even a reasonable 33% would only have added 12 more points. Cornell going Cornell going 23-34 from two is more concerning.

Princeton had no answers for Cornell today and even when the offense came to life in the second half they couldn’t get stops. Without the 20-5 collapse in the last 7 minutes of the first half it would have been a competitive game; that was probably the worst stretch we have seen this year.
It seemed like Cornell played with more urgency, which is disappointing given this was one of the 4 most critical league games the Tigers will play. Credit to the Big Red, they played an outstanding game and Princeton could not match their level of intensity.
Onward! As others have commented, I’m hoping this will challenge the team to bring their A game for 40 minutes in New Haven next week.

Years ago I heard it said by an expert color commentator (whose name I do not recall) that a team that presses does not like to be pressed.
We cut into the lead when we started full court pressure, although they quickly adapted.
Unfortunately, we do not have enough horses to apply full court pressure for any length of time.

In general, I feel that MH over the years doesn't coach the team to go for turnovers enough when the straight positional defense isn't working. Even teams that almost wanted to turn it over didn't get much aggressive ball pressure or crowding of the passing lanes. That's why I have often wondered why the 1-3-1 (or just more high-pressure man) wasn't used when the opponent was already shooting a high percentage.
Last year, after the Yale collapse, the team played very good sound positional defense, which is great when you can do it. You stay in better position to rebound, you avoid reach-in fouls, and back cuts are hared to come by. But that team had good post defense and helping rim protection from Kellman and Tosan. Pierce and Martini are hard-put to hold down the fort inside, and the expedient of doubling leads to potential treys if the opponent moves the ball the way Cornell did today.
This team, like the one from two years ago, needs to take more chances on disrupting the opponent's offense when it's getting beat inside on drives and post-ups.

I don't see much to pick apart other than playing a little too tight. This team excels at handling pressure and got tons of open shots they usually make in their sleep - they just didn't go down.
Losing a road game or two in conference play is no biggie. It happens to every team. As I said before the game, splitting the two road games at Cornell and Yale would be a big W. And losing both isn't fatal either.
Protect homecourt. Win the ILT. Do that and it's Cinderella time all over again.
