I was at the mens’ game. Excellent all around effort and great poise in crunch time when Penn made a run. Excellent coaching job by Engles in minimizing our size disadvantage in the front court. DLR was excellent.

Nice to get the Quaker sweep! When was the last time that happened?

Abbey was due for a big game and she came through today. Her six 3-pointers move her into 2nd place all-time in Ivy history for 3-pt FG made, passing Cornell's Matt Morgan. She now has 337. Only Big Red legend, Ryan Wittman, has more (377).

My crack team of statisticians noted this is only the 6th time ever that the Columbia men and women have swept Penn on the same day... first since Feb 26, 2010. Abbey was 9 years old.

Pete easily wins the Oscar for Best January Post! Abbey was great today against a pretty good Penn squad. The Lions won big, and played well overall, but Penn is no Princeton. Obviously, Coach G has a plan for getting the team ready for Princeton #2 and #3, both at Columbia and almost certainly sellouts.

Can we now say that we appear to have turned a corner and are now a competitive team? While we are still undersized in the front court, and are being badly outrebounded, we have an all-Ivy caliber first team candidate in DLR (playing with a heavily bandaged hand) and some very good athletes up and down our lineup. Yesterday our shooting percentages were outstanding. McLean, Cooper, Robledo, Thompson, Bedri and most importantly Josh O are all vastly improved from a year ago. Next weekend will be a good test —two road games against teams who are up and down.

And I don’t want to overlook Nolan’s, who is an excellent player with starter talent —he had a great game yesterday
