Big opportunity tonight to take a big step towards locking up the 1 seed. Princeton's a tough customer though, especially if Matt Knowling can't play.

so according to rothstein it's a groin injury. that usually indicates he's out. no matter how "hopeful" james is which is probably gamesmanship.

not sure who nick guards? knowling was really effective on that end given his wingspan and quickness esp for a forward
maybe you see simmons play more?

of course nick could create pressure on the post on the offensive side. he usually performs well against smaller teams

was very interesting that penn guarded wolf with a big guard on perimeter and kind of pulled a kansas and brought a late double on the post.

losing knowling opens some options up for princeton on d unfortunately

penn also threw untold junk at us on d with various coverages presses zones and creative man to man matchups.

If it were up to me, I think I'd start Simmons. You give up the ability to have a defensive stopper out there at all times, but like you said, this isn't a great match-up for Nick Townsend defensively.

will be a tough matchup without him on road no doubt.

but i think thats right. you trade o for d and you hope you defend the arc and they dont bury you there.

my guess is nick starts but simmons gets more minutes. and guys like molloy play like friday.

Yale down 38-30 at half. Bulldogs offense was humming early, but they went away from what was working and paid the price. Princeton hit some low-percentage threes, balancing out some of the high-percentage ones they missed early. Wolf has a bagel, which really needs to change in the second if Yale wants to win. (He's frustrated with how he's being officiated, but, uh, welcome to Saturday night Ivy basketball.)

I'm beginning to agree with Danny. Second half so far will not be one that gets these refs to Springfield. But Yale is not finishing well and is letting it get to them. Gotta keep running offense and start hitting shots.

yea tough when you cant make up a layup and no knowling.
watching matchups and dont hate it still.
but we underestimate how well knowling moves the ball and of courses finishes when u need one.
look rushed and 1-on-1 like beginning of year
oh well

wolf lays a bagel. knowling doesnt play.
cldnt hit a layup generally
i dont hate the matchups and hopefully the 3rd time is a charm.
but have to get there without knowling which is concerning.
not the same team bc of how wolf gets played.

That was a disappointment. The game was there due the taking even without Matt Knowling. But Yale just missed a bunch of shots, let themselves get out of sorts, and let the road Saturday whistle get to them. This was Danny Wolf's first real clunker - unfortunate time for it.

Friday is huge now. Yale has to get that one for the one-seed.

I will say, for a positive takeaway, that the defense was quite good tonight. Nick Townsend did a fantastic job.

i heard savage say mitch henderson said he wanted wolf to play like a center.
its the missing part of his game playing w the ball in the air so to speak.
knowling/wolf means he doesnt have too. but in fairness the double teams also make it hard to play big.
but he missed a lot of gimmes.
i am not scared of princeton to the same degree i was in december.
but i am scared of a shadow without knowling. bc these junk defenses will be tough when you arent on

agree when i say matchups its defense bc man it so debilitating to not make a layup and still defend 5 out ball on the road on a saturday night.
they did that well.

i am bullish on this team healthy. but i am short the 1 seed.
this team was messed up with knowling on a health yo yo earlier.

our d is better but the impact of back to backs + junk d + wolf isnt a cyborg as evidenced tonight means its a slog from here.
i think you have to play for health and groins like ankles can drag and you have to rest it

of course i am going w rothstein on twitter. but i knew it wasnt good

i think its more concerning than the seed

What I saw makes me optimistic for game 3, actually. For one, Yale showed that they had a good defensive game plan for Princeton even without Knowling. For another, I don't think you can assume that Yale will again miss double-digit layups with only glorified wings guarding the rim. Plus I don't think Princeton actually did anything different against Danny this time - same aggressive side traps as they had before, he just wasn't on last night, either passing or shooting. Missing Knowling also took away Yale's most reliable safety valve on offense. With Knowling back, with Danny playing to his level, on a neutral court? I like our chances.

Maybe, but I also wouldn’t count on Princeton shooting 26% from deep again.

I don't think the "star PF missing minutes" game particularly favors Princeton here.

Also, I had no idea this was true until I checked, but Princeton has shot the 3 extremely poorly in-league - a 33.7% mark, good for fifth in the conference. Obviously, there are too many good Tiger shooters for that to make me feel comfortable, but that's quite the stat.
