There's been speculation that the league would screw Brown, Cornell, and Dartmouth by not letting them host the ILT.

The league affirmed that the tournament will visit those schools.

You guys had better hope there's no blizzard in Hanover in mid March of '27.

Climate change may be your friend.

The idea of letting each school host a tournament was poor, some of the gyms just are not worthy of it. Leede is basically a high school gym, Newman is decent sized but it's in Ithaca, and Pizzitola is without question the worst gym to watch a basketball game I've ever been in.

I'd vote Palestra as permanent home for IL tourney.

I agree. But the opposition was too loud...

The only proper solution is home courts at higher seed since the opposition to the only national-worthy arena is too high. Playing in unsuitable facilities for a crowd of more than 5000 was always a bad idea. Worse, it was a breach of the promise that was made to go to a Tournament in the first place, i.e., that it would allow a fraternal get-together of Ivy alumni and students that would threaten the world with its power. Now we have separate admissions and no one stays for the games of other teams.

That opposition came mostly when both Penn men and women were competitive for IL titles. Soooo....

We can hope that Penn's lack of competitiveness is not a permanent condition.

FWIW, I think we need too let the first
pass of everyone getting a turn run its course.

If the smaller venues don't work, and I think
Columbia clearing the gym is a sign they will
not, I would look for a neutral court that is convenient
and has adequate hotel space. I am not sure
of the logistics if we wait for a regular season
champion, or how tie-breakers would work.

Ugh, 3 years of Brown, Cornell and Dartmouth tournaments. I take it back--Penn's lack of competitiveness may be a good thing for the next 3 years.

Jadwin provides adequate seating (capacity 6,800) and frankly a much more roomy, bright and comfy lobby space to hang out during breaks than the Palestra. (Don't get me wrong, I love the Palestra but sitting on those damn wooden benches with no chair backs and standing in those dank and dreary hallwalls is torture on my aging back.)

Having to clear the gym between games at Levien was pretty bush league, although hitting up Tom's Restaurant (aka Monk's Cafe) was a cool way to spend time between games. Although I probably would have purchased tickets to both men's semis anyway, I didn't like being forced to buy two sets of tickets while waiting to find out if the Tigers would be in the 1-4 or the 2-3 game. I'm sure I wasn't the only one to do so.

I don't understand why the league can't allow the league winner to host the tournament. If the league is dead set on having the men's and women's tournaments in the same gym, just rotate the thing between the men's winner's home court one year and the women's winner's home site the next. Princeton was able to immediately schedule Jadwin for the NIT on Saturday afternoon and has done so on short notice for NIT and CBI in the past. Other schools have done the same.

If the league winner can't host for some reason, go to the runner-up.

You folks might learn a thing or two from the wonderful exhibits on Big Five basketball history, installed throughout those hallways, when the Palestra was refurbished. Spruces them up quite a bit.

There's even a segment about Penn-Princeton.

As I said, I love the Palestra. I prefer Jadwin. I'd be perfectly satisfied if the tournament rotated between the two gyms.

Also, with the construction of the practice facility right next to the Palestra, there is a huge area for people to congregate and socialize between and after games in an Ivy tournament at the Palestra. It's just not open for regular season games.

Jadwin is for sure the biggest home court advantage in the IL. Visiting players hate playing there. The weird lighting and asymmetry of the stands make it a tough place to shoot if you're not wearing the black and orange.

Having been a visiting player at Jadwin, I concur. Sight lines, depth perception and perspective are all negatively affected by the aircraft hangar atmosphere.

I despise the place.
