Dartmouth should really use this as an excuse to eliminate the basketball programs, spend the $ on Hockey, Skiing and Figure Skating
Cant compete with that location and never will
No one will miss the winter trips to Hanover
If Dartmouth left Ivy hoops, then you could bring in Army/Navy (of course you could still do that)

Army/Navy don't fit the mold of the Ivies in any way. Dartmouth isn't going anywhere. They wouldn't be permitted to stay in the Ivies if they withdrew from basketball. And the union issue will be on appeal for years.

My labor law expertise is limited to handling a few cases as a judicial clerk on a court that heard quite a few labor cases (at least in those days). But I would not be surprised if cutting MBB in retaliation for forming a union would result in legal consequences....
And besides, IMHO it would really be a dickish move on Dartmouth's part. That's not our style. While it's obvious that Dartmouth is unhappy with the unionization, it is far more likely that the college continues to challenge the union through the legal process (which, as you say, will take quite a while). By then, everyone will have calmed down a bit...
Winning last night certainly helped MBB's cause. Can't hurt to say that we're undefeated after unionizing!

I am sure I am not the only person who agrees with most of her sentiments. I get the feeling she is directing her comments as much at her fellow presidents as at alums and fans.
And it's hard to read these comments and not come away thinking D3 could be a real possibility down the road, or possibly even a split of the league should a few better endowed schools decide to remain relevant in D1 sports although I think that outcome is very unlikely.

Not that recruiting at Dartmouth has ever been easy, but can you imagine how hard it's going to be going forward?
Coach has to explain all this on top of convincing a high school kid to sign up for 6 month long winters?
