Yale's Ivy regular season ends with a title on the line at home. I'm sure grateful that this one isn't at the Pizz - Brown has been hot at home recently. Saturday is the first day of Yale's spring break, so I don't expect there'll be many student.
(Also, I never expected to hear myself say this, but go Quakers.)

Princeton doesn't need any help for the 1-seed! Granted, it'd be kind of hard to have the four-Tiger-one-Bulldog all-Ivy team some on here seem to think merited if Yale ties at the top. Those pesky results, always getting in the way of a good story.

I'm actually rooting for the Bulldogs. Need to cool off Brown before the ILT.
May Yale and Princeton both take care of business... and meet again in the ILT final.

The only suggestion I saw of four players from one school
getting All_IVy recognition was your suggestion of
four Bulldogs, but I do think the case for three Tigers
has gotten stronger. Allocco had a great weekend,
and Pierce was co-POW.

some clown who undoubtedly sleeps with a stuffed feline argued mitch henderson should pick the team which i found cute. how many does that imply?
personally i dont care though i assumed the thread was for adults
ideally princeton and yale pass through the gauntlet which starts saturday for both. as a yale homer i recognize nothing is a given so hope for the best each step of the way.

In any case, back to Brown - I don't think Yale is a super great match-up for the Bears. Yale is one of the few Ivy teams who has a stellar defensive guard with athleticism and a true big man with size. I would think this would make it harder for Owusu-Anane and Lilly to get theirs. It absolutely is an asset in the League this year to have a true big man with mobility, if for no other reason than that neither Cornell nor Princeton really plays a true post man. Ragland is the closest either of them gets.

what i hate abt this game is its at 12 and its senior day but students are gone so the atmosphere will likely be not great.
brown should be fired up and they are kind of due.
yale should have simething to play for but in some ways it's out of their control.
the two guards at brown kimo and aj (?) have taken some pressure off lily and are helping spread the floor and freeing up space for the bigs.
good news is we have bigs to your point but brown was such an underachiever that this move in results back to their talent mean is reflexive driving lots of confidence.
will be tough

Meanwhile, continuing the recent theme of Yale getting no recognition whatsoever, The Athletic thinks Cornell and Princeton are both far more likely to pull off an upset in the NCAA tournament than Yale would be. Ho-hum, Yale's not very good, just the team with the best metrics in conference since conference play started.

It's very interesting when you compare the Big Three's stats from the noncon and conference play, for what it's worth.

it would be nice if yale occasionally used some ball pressure 3/4s to mix it up. doesnt mean they cant.
article talks about 3 point shooting steal rate and offensive rebounding.
we have been through 3 point shooting. obviously cuts both ways.
steal rate goes up if you pressure the ball.
oreb is what if is but we dereb well.
our personnel and style is more conventional i guess against the power 5. but we also match up well size wise so ?

I agree that Yale is underrated nationally. The way Gonzaga is playing of late, that non-con game could be looked at a bit differently now.

The Athletic analysis was focused on upset potential rather than overall power stats, so they didn't like Yale as much because they don't think it generates the high-variance stats that can lead to upsets over teams with higher averages.

Fun one so far in PWG. Yale is getting their lunch eaten on the boards, but they're making up for it by shooting 55% from three. That last sequence was a real killer for Brown - down 4 with the ball and the shot clock off, then an illegal screen and a super deep made three for August as time expired. Huge momentum swing.

Brown looks night-and-day better than earlier in the year. Yale's end-of-game awareness there was plumb awful, but credit to Lilly and Owusu-Anane for keeping Brown afloat, and credit to Brown's defense for getting some critical stops.
Yale's got some stuff to clean up before next week. The rebounding issues were pretty much the difference today.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. They've showed plenty of toughness at other times - and even today, with some big shotmaking. I'm tempted to write this up to just all the trap factors you mentioned.

Brown had 16 ORB - good for 44% of all available offensive rebounds. That was the problem right there. And it's not a problem Yale normally has. Brown crashed with a vengeance and Yale just did not box hard enough.

i dont think we cld beat them 3x this year.
the upside is you dont play them unless you win a game.
i would fear them a little bit though i would fear a turkey if this lineup cant rebound. what its designed for really

Brown II 03-09-24 03:59 PM - Post#364817

Mmph, I'm not sure Brown is capable of playing much better than they did today. A bunch of mediocre free throw shooters hit all their shots, a bunch of mediocre shooters from distance hit big 3s, they got 44% of all OREBs, Kino Lilly looked all-world by the end, and they still needed a crazy buzzer-beater to win. They certainly can do it, but I don't think I'd put money on it.
EDIT: Obviously, this isn't meant to take anything away from Brown - those guys did do all those things today! - but I'm not sure how replicable this performance is.

i wouldnt want to play cornell in round 1. and i wouldnt want to have to beat brown 3x to get the opportunity to play for a title.
thats the ILT in a nutshell. it's too bad we blew a share for the regular season title on our floor up 15! in the 2h and shooting 52% from the field.
it brings back bad memories of the blown leads in ooc play and really makes you wonder going in. i also had the thesis that knowling playing we were undefeated.
no more! and no title. bummer.
