…and it’s Kyle Smith, formerly of Washington State of the PAC-2 conference.

Smith previously coached at Columbia, and a few CalTrain stops away from Stanford at USF.

Does that mean Mitch is staying put? No guarantees but the odds just went way up.

I doubt Earl would have left for W&M if he thought Henderson was leaving Princeton this offseason.

Not a slam dunk that Earl would have gotten the job over MacConnell.

Mark Byington (JMU) to Vandy

...which I believe means the rumored/obvious Mitch landing spots are now closed? (and even for the next couple years, there aren't many other high-major-with-academics jobs likely to open soon)

I think Mitch tipped his hand in the article you posted in the other thread:

https://guardenstate.substack.com/p/princeton-fall...

  • Quote:
“...we’ll get back together and talk about our goals for next season, which will be – we’ll have very heavy, lofty goals.”

Maybe that’s an indication Henderson plans to stay put. Maybe that’s reading too much into it, and the right offer, the one that could persuade him to leave Old Nassau, has yet to materialize.

Knock on wood, but it seems MH is staying at least for another season. There's clearly a feeling of unfinished business.

JMU is a great place to be right now for a coach aspiring to be a Power-5 coach. It is truly at the very next level below. I don't know that institutional academic prowess is as much of a factor, but I don't know what JMU is looking for, either.

The Stanford and Vanderbilt jobs are off the board. Mitch Henderson had been linked to both but I never got the sense that he was trying to leave Princeton.

This “PAWcast” with Mitch and Carla is worth a listen. They both sound very enthusiastic about coaching here.

Glad there was a transcript!

Mitch mentioned he has learned from watching Berube's practices, which others have postulated.

Both great people. We are lucky to have them (even though James over on the Yale board did not like Mitch when he played against him )

Thanks for sharing that, very inspiring and great to see how much both Coach Henderson and Coach Berube value being part of the Princeton community. Princeton just lost a great coach, Chris Ayers, to Stanford after 17 years so nothing is forever. Tiger hoops fans are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated leadership of our basketball programs.

Reality is it's ridiculous that he doesn't get paid anything near what he probably should. Feel for him on that and is also why Earl more than likely took new gig.

Not that that is close to accurate with respect to the full package that we all know Amaker gets close to if not over $1 million.

With the big name defections at Yale, Brown and Harvard, I think the best career move for MacConnell would be waiting another year or two.

There's no guarantee of course, but the ILT seems a lot more winnable next season. And another NCAA appearance/run would boost Brett and MH's stock considerably.

So I guess Mike Brennan moves on as well.

Regarding Princeton coaches, in the past, it was reported that our Basketball coach was paid the same as a full professor.

I don't know if that was accurate or if that has changed (probably not, if it was accurate).
