Tigers finally sent a player to the portal. Rising 6'10" junior Vernon Collins. He saw very limited playing time.

I am a little surprised.
He appeared to be a very strong student,
who I thought we would keep, and
maybe get some useful contributions
in the future.
Hope he finds a good fit in all. aspects
of his experience.

Just heard that Tiger player from the Bradley era, Larry Luchinno has died. He was a major league baseball executive for many years with Padres, Orioles and Red Sox.

Hard to imagine his motive. I would not think any NIL$ would be sufficient to offset what he is giving up here. I’m sure that he can find a place that will give him more playing time. But, he could still grow into a greater role here as we need more size up front. But, all the best to him. Can he still change his mind?

Or, maybe the Princeton degree is overrated.

Disappointing. I was hoping Vern would grow into a larger role the way did Keeshawn did his senior year. We certainly need size and strength with Zach graduating.

This may have nothing to do with NIL and everything to do with playing time. With the transfer rules being what they are now, players who want more playing time can jump into the portal, see what comes their way, and be playing for another school the next year. No more requirement to sit out a year. So coaches have to worry about their best players leaving and their mid-level players leaving if they don't get enough PT.

I hope CJ Happy will make us all smile next year.

PN still wishes he had the Princeton option--pretty sad.

I imagine some Penn fans clicked on this thread hoping to see Lee or Pierce in the portal... only to be disappointed with our 4th string center leaving. Sorry to disappoint! BTW, Lee is already back to work with his longtime trainer:

Best of luck to Collins - hope he finds a better fit with more minutes. Huggins will likely be the new starting center with Byriel getting some time. Incoming recruit CJ Happy seems like a Zach Martini-type that could be a good complementary piece.

Malik Abdullahi is a 6-7 freak athlete who's known as a lockdown defender for a Top 3 high school team, but he seems like more of a SF/PF.

Sorry, but I had no interest in applying there. At the time, it was pretty WASPy.

Get over it, PN. Knock the log off your shoulder. Last time I checked, Penn had a higher % of preppies than Princeton

Maybe your child (or grandchild?) will have better judgement — if he/she can get in.

Quite honestly, I found Princeton students to be fairly obnoxious when I was in college, particularly regarding basketball. I knew nothing about Penn basketball before going to school there, or Princeton for that matter so I had zero chips on my shoulder whatsoever.

You mainly have made up for lost time in that regard.

Yes, thank you to your fellow Princetonians for this. I got quite the experience in college.

Have since met others who are quite fine, mercifully.

As one of our kinder, more gracious Tigers might reply,

Hi, Penn Nation! Peace, have a good day.

Martini to Rutgers:

https://twitter.com/zachmartini5587/statu s/1775674...

They desperately need 3pt shooting and now they get one of the best/only high-volume stretch 5s in D-I. With Rutgers getting 2 of the Top 3 recruits in the 2024 class, Martini has a good chance to get back to the Big Dance. He deserves it.

That said, it'll be weird playing against Zach if Rutgers is on the schedule next season. The "Jersey Jam" was a great game, but I don't know if Pikiell wants to risk playing us again.

Re: Collins - he’s definitely big - but during the NIT game he looked a bit lost on offense and defense. You’d hope he could have been at least a big body that could defend and rebound, and big men take time to develop - but if he wasn’t into what they were trying to get him to learn….

Rutgers will be a weird one to follow. Best of luck to Martini, though.

Ryan Duncan in the portal. Like Collins, he barely played and didn't have a future in the rotation. Davis and Hicke are ahead of him in his own class and I suspect incoming freshman Jack Stanton would be too. Hope Duncan finds a better fit.

With all respect to Mr Duncan, I have trouble understanding what he can get out of this, unless he is unhappy at Princeton in general. If he now decides to stay for his degree, he has burned his bridges with his teammates.

Good luck Ryan.
