Not sure transfers burn bridges so much anymore. It’s so much a part of the landscape now that I wouldn’t be at all surprised if everyone just wishes him well (and would take him back if he doesn’t find a fit).

Yeah, I think the team understands - he's not gonna play meaningful minutes with so many PGs/combo guards ahead of him. If you're good enough to play D-I hoops, you must think you're good enough to play more than garbage time.
I won't even be surprised if a rotation guy like Jack Scott enters the portal. With Deven Austin coming back and recruits like Malik Abdullahi coming in, I don't see his playing time going up.
Players who transfer to find a bigger role are using the portal correctly IMO.

I think Scott will stay. His time
went way up, and both Austin
and Abdullah are question
marks right now.
We need help on the boards, and Scott rebounds well
for his size. I also hope Huggins and/or Sangster
take a step up.

Looks like I called it:

@RivalsPortal
Princeton sophomore wing Jack Scott has entered the transfer portal after averaging 2.3 points and 2.2 rebounds per game this season.
Best wishes to Scott. He's a solid player, but he wasn't getting much time next season with Austin coming back and MH being big on Hicke.

I'm sorry but this is really upsetting. He was really coming on at the end of the season, particularly at the defensive end. Both his parents are Princeton alums and his Dad was ... (I won't finish that sentence).
I've been slow to acknowledge that college basketball has turned into a complete s*** show but I've lost my naivete with this one. Uggh!
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a mass retirement wave among college coaches coming very soon. This is the sports equivalent of serving in the U.S. House under Speaker whatshisname.

Princeton hasn't lost a star to the portal yet, but it's clear that the combination of the new transfer portal + "NIL" booster collectives is ruining college basketball.
At the very least, the NCAA should reinstate the one-year waiting period for transfers. Even the power conferences might support that - there's way too much chaos now.

Maybe the fact that Scott entered the portal answers the question, but to me it looked like he had a path to continued playing time, and maybe even to being a starter. Allocco did a lot of things, so who replaces him in the starting lineup will be interesting. Davis is most likely, but that makes an already small team even smaller. Agreed there are lots of possibilities with Austin, Hicke, and Abdullahi, and choices to go bigger or smaller with Huggins or Stanton. Kind of surprising to me that Scott would look at the landscape, see a couple of starters graduating, and think he would get surpassed in the rotation by guys who were behind him last year (or weren’t there at all). I guess it doesn’t matter now.
Princeton now has the most undergrads in the portal, but has avoided losing any of last year’s starters, which is more than Yale, brown, Penn, and Harvard can say.

Mitch was forced to play small-ball due to Deven Austin's absence. It's easy to forget that Austin was actually getting more minutes than Lee as a freshman. A healthy 6-6 Austin would have started at SF next to Allocco and Lee with 6-1 Peters coming off the bench.
That is to say, Deven's return and Dalen's promotion to starter should cover most of Allocco's minutes. Peters probably comes off the bench as a 6th man, where he's more effective anyway.

I would not be at all surprised if Abdullahi and/or Stanton play solid minutes and even find a place in the starting lineup next year. For what its worth, 247 Sports rates them as the #3 and #7 highest rated Princeton recruits since its inception 20 years ago. Dalen Davis is #4. (link below)
With another small team, I was hoping the Tigers would have enough depth and high energy players next year to run 5-10 minutes of full-court press/1-3-1 as a regular feature. I thought Scott played a key role in making that work really well for Princeton when they deployed it a few times out of desperation this year. (Still scratching my head over him jumping into the portal with his 2.3 ppg and 27% shooting from deep.)

It's hard to project freshmen, but MH clearly has no qualms about playing them if they're able to contribute. Stanton was a very coveted recruit among mid-majors (and Ivies specifically) while Abdullahi is a freak athlete who is said to be a lockdown defender.
Guard rotation seems pretty set, but center remains a question mark. CJ Happy might get a chance to make the rotation. The coaching staff excels at player development, so I hope they can take Huggins to the next level. He doesn't need to be a star, just a solid role player.

We've been so fortunate that none of our stars have hit the transfer portal (knock on wood). Meanwhile, Brown just lost Kalu Anya too.
Losing in the ILT may have had a silver lining. Our disappointing finish may have kept Mitch and Caden from jumping to a power conference and Xaivian from jumping to the NBA. Instead, all of our major pieces seem to be coming back for a "Redeem Team" tour with our two stars a year older and better.
Barring Lee getting a 1st round draft promise, it looks like the stars are aligned for an amazing 2024-25 (post)season.

Interesting list--many subsequent standouts were NOT on the list. FWIW I see Harrison Schaen, Sebastian Much, and Mason Hooks on the list.

I have not been following this closely, but has there been a statement anywhere about the reason for Scott entering the portal? I'm not ready to assume a reason for anyone doing so, especially from an ivy, where there could be non-basketball reasons.
