Year three of the Eshe regime and the women's program appears to be in trouble. Lost this weekend to Pacific, who had lost earlier in the week to Columbia by 30(!) and their record now stands at 1-5.

Notes on the struggle (in no particular order)
-team has almost double the number of TOs to assists
-key contributor Nyla McGill did not return for her senior year
-shooting under 60% FT so far this year
-only one player (Egger) averaging over 7 ppg

I suppose the only hope in all this is that the bottom the Ivys is very bad this year so Yale can conceivably pick up some wins there. But this program is not in good shape.

Oof. Now 1-10 after a 22-point loss to Florida International. Cornell and Dartmouth seem to be improving a bit. If Yale finishes below them in the league, it's probably time for a change.

I watched some of the FIU game (unfortunately) and Yale's lack of size and athleticism was shocking compared to FIU.

-FIU shot nearly 60% from the field and attempted 29 FTs, Yale seemed helpless to stop them.
-Yale had 23 TOs to 8 assists
-FIU outrebounded Yale 30-13 (and Yale had 0 offensive boards - which I'm not sure I've ever seen before).

And with a non-stats based observation, Yale's players/coaches just look flat. Dartmouth's team might not be much better but they play with much more enthusiasm.

Soooo, Yale got run out of their own gym by a BU team that had lost by 60 (!) to Harvard before Christmas. Dreadful stuff and probably only Dartmouth offers any chances for a W the rest of the season.

Can someone explain what has happened here?

Is it a talent/recruiting issue? Injuries? Yale was a winning program not that long ago.

I do not think injuries have been part of their slide, but the talent deficit is pretty obvious watching them play. They're small and don't have any impact players.

Not sure what's going on with Eshe, and I know Yale isn't the easiest place to recruit to, but this is her third season and her team (and incoming recruits) has gotten worse every year. Guth was never a great coach but she got good players in the door.

Win on the road over an improving Dartmouth squad certainly helps Eshe's cause. Better still would be avoiding the Ivy cellar.

Notably, the three players who did damage against Dartmouth are seniors: Egger, Thybulle, Lee.

Yeah, that was a game where one of the teams had to win. Jeez, it was not fun to watch.

What was interesting to watch was the coaches. I had high hopes for Coach Eshe when she took over, but spending some more time looking at how she carries herself in the game I have real concerns.

In particular, she spends an incredible amount of time complaining to the refs. One possession she felt her player had been fouled, she started complaining to the ref, at one point had her back turned to play as it was going on and missed Dartmouth going through Yale's defense to score, all while arguing a call. Her focus was 100% not on the live play as it was happening. A few plays later there was a timeout and she and her entire coaching staff walked over towards the refs to complain about another call while her team came off the floor for a timeout huddle. Meanwhile Dartmouth's coach remained engaged with her players and never let a perceived bad call take her out of the actual gam going on around her.

I don't mean to bash any coach, but Eshe's track record thus far has been brutal and trying to figure out why is pretty interesting.
