Even game through the half, but UMass appears to be pulling away in the second half. UMass is just physically stonger and larger. UMass has scored 38 of 43 points in the paint! Harvard has been outrebounded 35-21 and UMass has 14 offensive rebounds. If UMass wasn't 1-14 on 3's this would be ugly. Currently UMass up 43-36

To add perspective, this is a 1-5 UMass team that doesn't have anyone over 6'8"

Well, one of those Minutemen just managed a ferocious block.

Eisendrath making some plays. At one point in my academic career I interviewed Edwin Eisendrath, who at the time was a Chicago alderman.

Turns out it's his uncle.

UMass gets bailed out by some big offensive boards after they inexplicably put up a shot up 6 with 15 seconds still remaining on the shot clock.

Harvard loses 54-62.
Not a bad effort, but UMass knew they had physical advantages and took advantage:
21 ORB's
51-28 rebouding margin
26 buckets in the paint, 1 outside, 1 three (1-16)

Really dispiriting loss. Nothing we can do about the fact that, with Luca hurt, we don’t have anybody over 6’7”. We just wore down in the second half, giving up offensive rebound after offensive rebound. Our only hope in a game like is to get crazy hot from three, but we were cold. I am immediately regretting getting tickets to the St. John’s game; we’re going to lose by 40.

Batties was once again very good. The problem is nobody else was. Pigge missed a lot of very makeable shots in close, Hinton had a below average game shooting himself, Lesmond struggled to get free, and nobody could make an outside shot. The last 5-6 minutes of the first half, when we went scoreless and blew our 7 point lead, is where we lost the game.

We need Luca and Hunt back, and we need them back soon. We simply don’t have the depth, after all our losses from last year, to afford any injuries.
